Soon it May Mean 60 Days in Jail for Leading Religious Meetings in Kazakhstan
Human rights activists cast a worried eye on Kazahkstan, as it considers a newly proposed Criminal Code and Code of Administrative Offences. The Codes strengthen existing penalties for religious belief and association without state permission, as well as guidelines for treatment of prisoners (including a categorical ban on building places of worship in prisons). The new Codes have already passed through the Majilis (lower house of Parliament) and are currently in Senate.

Bailiffs in Uzbekistan Illegally Seize Baptists’ Private Property
UZBEKISTAN: "Let him pay the fine and we'll return the car"
Two Baptist families in Uzbekistan were fined in October 2012 for religious activity, but refused to pay them. Over a year later – after the legal time period for a penalty to be imposed had expired – two Uzbeki bailiffs went to the homes of these Baptists, confiscating private property in the absence of those who were initially given the fine. When pressed, one of the bailiffs admitted the seizure had been illegal, but dismissed its importance: “Yes, we were late with the confiscation, but so what?”

Uncertain Fate of Six Christian Detainees in Southern Tehran
ICC Note: Six Christians who were detained in April are still unaccounted for. The believers had met together for an Easter celebration in a private home when security forces raided the meeting. The Pope’s Holy-Land Trip Wasn’t About the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
ICC Note: During the Pope’s visit, the world watched to understand his motives for the dangerous visit to the Middle East. Some even labeled his visit a “propaganda war” as he stopped at several controversial places to pray. The Pope’s actions reveal his ultimate concern: the dwindling Christian population. As the number of Christians continue to dwindle from the region, The Pope hopes to establish a connection between Muslims and Christians again to relieve this violent persecution.

Ancient Christian Sites in Syria Threatened
ICC Note: The Syrian government claimed there was extensive damage to ancient Christian sites in a small town outside of Damascus. In this small town, Aramaic, the language of the New Testament, is still spoken. In the midst of all of the political upheaval, several churches have been looted while others have been emptied to protect religious artifacts from being stolen or destroyed. As this vandalism increases, the government is slowly taking steps to acknowledge the effects of the civil war on the Christian minority.

Zhejiang’s Anti-Church Campaign Spreading to Neighbor Province in China
ICC Note: Not long after the anti-church campaign took place in Zhejiang Province, the neighbor province Anhui started to force house churches to register with the government, in order to eliminate churches outside the government-sanctioned system. Local believers expressed the concerns that police may continue to harass church gathering or church leaders even after registration.

Two Christian Women Detained for Distributing Gospel Flyers in Xinjiang, China
ICC Note: Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in far west part of China has always been strictly controlling house churches. Recently, two Christian ladies were detained because they were distributing Gospel flyers. Archbishop of Canterbury to Take on Pakistan’s Blasphemy Law
ICC Note: The Archbishop of Canterbury arrived in Pakistan this week as part of an effort to encourage Pakistani Christians and express his concerns over Pakistan's controversial blasphemy law. Pakistan's blasphemy law, which make insulting Islam a crime punishable by death, is often abused by extremist seeking to settle personal scores, eliminate rivals or persecute minorities. Christians in Pakistan are disproportionately accused and convicted under this law, prompting the Archbishop's concern.

India’s New Prime Minister Calls on Nepal to Respect Religious Minorities
ICC Note: In a private meeting between the leaders of India and Nepal, India's newly elected prime minister, Narendra Modi, invited Nepal to respect religious minorities. Later, the Secretary of India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Modi has a "deep respect for all religions." These statement provide a glimmer of hope for the future of religious freedom in India. Christians and other religious minorities in India fear Modi because of his Hindu nationalist ideology and history regarding incidents of religious violence. Do these statements mean that Hindu nationalism and sectarian violence are a thing of Modi's past?

Prenatal exposure to flame retardants can be significantly linked to lower IQs and greater hyperactivity in five-year old children.
