Kyrgyzstan Continues Long-Standing Failure to Protect Christians Burying Loved Ones
KYRGYZSTAN: Complaining to local authorities about burial violations is "useless"
Burying loved ones according to their wishes has long been a struggle in Kyrgyzstan, for Christians as well as other religious minorities. Several recent cases underscore this long-standing difficulty, as local imams have prevented Christians from laying their deceased to rest in local cemeteries, even demanding conversion to Islam before the burial can take place. One grieving husband was forced to renounce Christianity and declare faith as a Muslim before being allowed to bury his Christian wife.

Malaysian Public University Mum Over Complaint On The Anti-Christian Seminar
ICC Note: In May, a controversial seminar promoting the idea of "threat of Christianization" was jointly organized by the largest public university in Malaysia UiTM and the Selangor Islamic Council (Mais). However, facing questions and concerns, the public university UiTM has kept mum over why academic authorities were willing to tolerate and even promote a certain religious agenda. It was reported that the seminar was promoting a bigoted view without inviting any Christian speaker; and an Indonesian Muslim speaker said “Christians were betraying God unless they became Muslims.” Christians expressed concerns over increasingly difficult inter-faith discourse in Malaysian society.

United Nations Report Says “No Genocide” in the Central African Republic
ICC Note: According to a recently released United Nations report (U.N.), experts have found no reason to suspect genocide has or is occurring in the Central African Republic (C.A.R.). Rather, a sickly series of reprisal attacks has and continues to plague the C.A.R., inciting radicalized Muslims, including remnants of the ousted Séléka movement, to perpetrate attacks against Christians, prodding return attacks by anti-Balaka militants upon both Islamic militants and Muslim civilians.

After Kenneth Bae, North Korea Detained Another American
ICC Note: On Friday, an American tourist was detained and North Korea’s official news agency reported that he “perpetrated activities that violated the laws of our republic, which did not fit his stated purpose of visiting our republic as a tourist.” It  reminds us of Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American missionary caught in the North Korea in late 2012, was accused of “trying to establish a secret proselytizing network inside the North” and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. North Korea uses this case to warn Christian missionaries who help North Korean refugees at the Sino-North Korea border. ICC continues to follow this case.

State Department Declining to Confirm Citizenship of Children in Sudanese Prison
ICC Note: Following State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki's public confirmation of Daniel Wani's United States (U.S.) citizenship, the State Department has declined to disclose the citizenship of what Sudan believes to be his and Meriam Yahia Ibrahim's (a 27-year-old mother of two and Daniel's wife who was sentenced to death on May 15 for her Christian faith) children. Father to a 20-month-old son and a newly-born daughter, both of whom remain imprisoned with their mother, Meriam, Daniel continues to petition to the U.S. for its help in /ensuring his family's safe passage to the United States should Meriam be released.

China Begins Releasing Dissidents Following Tiananmen Anniversary
ICC Note: Hu Shigen, a house church leader and dissident writer was placed under criminal detention in early May because of attending a private commemoration event of Tiananmen Square Massacre. Around 15 people involved in the event were detained and accused of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” Chinese government is still trying to crush any potential threats toward its authority. According to this article, three people were released, including Hu Shigen.

India’s BJP Party Urges Nepal to Make Religious Conversions Illegal
ICC Note: Many religious freedom groups have expressed concerns after it was reported that India's Hindu nationalist party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged Nepal to make religious conversions illegal. BJP specifically highlighted conversions to Christianity as a problem that needed to be curtailed. According to reports, Nepal is home to one of the fastest growing churches in Asia. Will this spell an end to that amazing growth?

Location of Abducted Priest in Afghanistan Still Unknown
ICC Note: On Monday, June 2, a Catholic priest was abducted from a school in the Herat province of Afghanistan. According to reports, a group of unidentified gunmen surrounded the school around 12:45 pm, fired shots in the air and then abducted the priest. The location of the priest continues to be unknown. In a comment yesterday, authorities believe that the priest was abducted because he is a foreigner, not because he is a priest. Please pray for his safety and his return home.

United States Senate Unanimously Approves Resolution in Support of Meriam
ICC Note: Late Tuesday, The United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Meriam Yahia Ibrahim, a 27-year-old mother of two and wife to an American citizen, who was sentenced to death for her faith on May 15.

Newborns exposed to dirt, dander, germs may have lower allergy, asthma risk
Infants exposed to rodent and pet dander, roach allergens and a wide variety of household bacteria in the first year of life appear less likely to suffer from allergies, wheezing and asthma, according to results of a recent study. Those who encounter such substances before their first birthdays seem to benefit rather than suffer from them. Importantly, the protective effects of both allergen and bacterial exposure were not seen if a child's first encounter with these substances occurred after age 1, the research found.
