CNN Guest Admits Panel Is Playing Into Democratic Hands
On Friday's New Day, the CNN panel was discussing whether or not Republicans are politicizing the Benghazi tragedy and The Atlantic's Molly Ball admitted the subject matter was playing right into Democratic hands. "This is exactly the story that Democrats would like us to be talking about, right?" she asserted. "Instead of talking about the facts, instead of talking about an investigation that seems serious and that is unearthing new information, we're talking about how political it is."

Egypt’s Christians Missing in the Struggle for Rights
Egypt is preparing for presidential elections at the end of this month. The United States Congress is considering resuming its financial assistance to Egypt. Against the backdrop of these two events, the situation for Egypt’s Christians remains dire. In Mallawi City, there is a sense of panic and fear amongst Christians, especially after the abduction of Michelle Shenouda. In 2014 alone, there have been at least 22 kidnappings throughout Minya province. Minya has been a flashpoint of violence against Christians in recent years. Attacks have increased over the nine months since Islamist President Mohammed Morsi has been removed from power. Safaa Saleh, writing for Al-Monitor, said, “The year 2013 saw great strife in Minya, where as many as 30 churches were burned and many people were killed.” This violence has continued into 2014 with Christians regularly being abducted and held for ransom.
Amnesty International Claims Nigeria Had Advance Warning of Mass-Abduction, Failed to Act
ICC Note: Amnesty International has reported that Nigerian security officials had advance warning of the impending mass-abduction of more than 240 predominately Christina school girls from a Chibok secondary school on April 14. A U.S. task force deployed to Nigeria has arrived and is now assisting the state and it’s security personnel with intelligence in its efforts to locate and release those still missing. Time remains of the essence following the release of a video featuring Boko Haram’s leader and spokesman, Abubakar Shekau, promising to act on Allah’s “instruction” to sell the girls into domestic and sexual servitudes, including forced marriages, in some cases to the girls’ very captors.
Watch Out for Burma’s Move to Restricting Interfaith Marriages Law
Burmese activists: law against mixed marriages "targets women and religious harmony "
ICC Note: 97 Burma civil society organizations have condemned the proposal of a bill restricting interfaith marriages that may harm women’s rights and religious freedom. Most of citizens in Burma are Buddhist. Supported by Buddhist extremists and the President, the proposal would require Buddhist women to seek permission from their parents and the authorities before marrying outside Buddhist faith. Activists from a local Christian group expressed that the bill could harm religious freedom, especially for women.
Anti-Christianity Campaign Taking Place in Zhejiang Province, China
(More Churches and Crosses Forcibly Removed in Zhejiang Province, CCP and Government Officials’ Religious Belief Being Surveyed) ICC Note: The Chinese article is discussing an anti-Christianity campaign being carried out step by step by Zhejiang province authorities: over 10 churches have been demolished since April, 2014; local house churches in Wenzhou city have received government notice to stop gathering; more than 10 crosses on church rooftops have been removed and many others are covered up; the Wenzhou city government have started investigating and recording government officials’ belief status; many believers’ family members involved in the government or local business are harassed by the government. Some local believers expressed the concerns that a persecution in full swing in Zhejiang province may appear. However, there is not yet a formal public statement from either state church or house church leaders.
Women of the U.S. Senate Ask Obama to Push for U.N. Designation of Boko Haram as International Terrorist Organization
ICC Note: Female members of the U.S. Senate composed a letter Wednesday asking President Obama to pressure the U.N. for Boko Haram's designation as an international terrorist organization in an effort to stop funding to the radical insurgency. With hopes of U.S. aid to Nigeria resulting in the location and release of more than 240 majority Christian school girls from a secondary school in Chibok on April 14 by members of Boko Haram, Senator Susan Collins is specifically calling for the deployment of U.S. Special Forces to Nigeria. The girls, reportedly being held at a Boko Haram stronghold on Nigeria's border with Cameroon, face potential sale to human trafficking rings, domestic and sexual servitude, and forced marriage, in some cases to their very captors. Promising to abduct more girls in the future with the intent of selling them into slavery, Boko Haram continues to carry out its campaign of terror for the establishment of a separate Islamic state ruled by Sharia Law on Nigeria's susceptible Northern Christian communities on an increasingly grand scale.
United Nations, International Criminal Court Condemn Mass-Abduction, Trafficking of Primarily Christian Girls
ICC Note: As each day passes with still no progress in locating and releasing the more than 240 girls (90% of whom are reportedly Christian) abducted from a secondary school in the predominantly Christian town of Chibok on April 14 by Boko Haram militants, the likelihood the Islamic insurgency will carry out it's leader's pledge to sell the girls "on the marketplace." In a video released Monday, Boko Haram leader and spokesman Abubakar Shekau both took responsibility for the abduction and relayed his intention to follow out Allah's "instruction" that he sell the girls into domestic and sexual servitudes, including forced marriages, in some cases to their very captors. In a statement released Monday as well, U.N. Spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights commented on the situation, threatening criminal retributions to all involved in the kidnapping, regardless of the Nigerian state's current inability to apprehend and turn over perpetrators to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has declared the trafficking of the abducted a crime against humanity.
Iranian Church Growing Despite Risk of Death
ICC Note: While there have been promises for reform in Iran, the reality has been that the crackdown on its religious minorities is increasing if anything. Despite this, the Iranian church appears to be growing. The intolerance and repression is driving many to look for a more meaningful belief system and they many are finding it in Christianity.
Christians Persecuted At Alarming Rate In Iran, Arab World, US Report Says
ICC Note: In the 2014 report released by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom they highlight the staggering rate of persecution taking place in the Middle East. While legislation and diplomatic tools are in place for the United States to address these concerns, the Obama administration has shown very little willingness to do so. From time to time public statements have been made, but very little true action has been taken to address the issue.
Death Threats to Christians in Jerusalem Ahead of Pope Francis Visit Have Roman Catholic Church Concerned
ICC Note: Vandalism and threats of attacks against Christians before the visit of Pope Francis to Jerusalem have sparked renewed interest in the hostility towards Christians in Israeli controlled areas. The occurrence of “price tag” attacks of vandalism has been on the rise. The most recent threats have been considered “explicit and serious” and church leaders are hoping that Israeli security officials will take it seriously.
Violence Surrounding Blasphemy Cases in Pakistan on the Rise
ICC Note: Violence surrounding blasphemy cases in Pakistan is on the rise. In the past year, four individuals, including three Christians on one Muslim, have been sentenced to death under the controversial law. Originally intended to promote religious harmony, blasphemy laws have mutated into tools used by Islamic radicals to persecute religious minorities, settle personal scores and realize financial gain. Christians and other religious minorities in Pakistan find themselves disproportionately accused and convicted of blasphemy. Earlier this week, a lawyer brave enough to take on the case of a professor accused of blasphemy was gunned down in his own law office. Please pray for the future of Pakistan and an end to the blasphemy laws.
Islamic Radicals Murder Christian Lawyer for Taking on Blasphemy Case in Pakistan
ICC Note: Pakistan's controversial blasphemy laws continue to be a source of persecution and abuse in the South Asian country. Earlier this week, a Christian lawyer was shot and killed in his law office because of his willingness to take on the case of an individual accused of blasphemy. The accused, a professor of English, was accused of blasphemy in March 2013. Since then, he had been unable to find legal representation due to the fear surrounding blasphemy in Pakistan. In February 2014, the Christian lawyer took on the professor's case. This decision proved fatal. Please pray for all those who suffer under Pakistan's blasphemy laws.
