Argentinian Pastor Says Anti-Manipulation Law Has Increased Pressure on the Church
Argentina’s fight to hold onto religious freedom
For the Pueblo Grande Baptist Church in Cordoba, Argentina, experiencing pressure from the government and local community is nothing new. Following the introduction of an anti-manipulation law in August, however, Pastor Marcelo Nieva says that attacks and hostility towards his church have escalated. Niev also noted that protests against the law only aggravated more pressure against the church. He remains steadfast under the persecution, in prayer and caring for his flock.

Christian Home Destroyed by Hindu Radicals in Kandhamal, India
By ICC’s India Correspondent: A Christian’s home was destroyed by Hindu radicals in village of Budrukia located in the Kandhamal District of Odisha state in India. The incident took place on April 12, 2014 and was intended by the radicals to drive the Christian family out of the village once and for all.

Three Laotian Christian Girls Denied Education Due To Their Faith
ICC Note: In Savannakhet province, Laos, the village chief of Saisomboon denied three Christian girls’ right to education because of their Christian faith. A local Christian leader appealed to the district education chief for the three girls, but is not clear if they are able to go back to school and take final exams. Meanwhile, in Donpalai village, a nearby village of Saisomboon, police officers raided and interrupted a Sunday worship of 80 people and confiscated 53 Bibles.

In Southwest China, A House Church Leader Detained and Two Crosses Demolished
Guizhou house church leader under house arrest for organizing training program
ICC Note: In Guizhou Province of southwest China, the provincial authority detained a house church pastor for inviting a teacher from outside of the town to conduct training. The religious rule in China forbids preachers to teach outside of their own county/city. After the pastor was detained, the police demolished the crosses inside and outside of the church. A lawyer is now contacting the pastor’s family and tries to help with the case.

Bhutan Charges Christian Pastor with Illegally Collecting Funds
ICC Note: In March, two Christian pastors were arrested by the Bhutanese authorities after attempting to screen a film in a remote Christian village. Initially, the two pastors were detained without any formal charge for 49 days, after which the prosecution brought trumped up charges regarding the film screening. These charges were formally dropped, but the prosecution is now charging one of the two pastors with illegally collecting funds. Although the government denies any connection to religious intolerance in regards to the case, both pastors claim that the case revolves around religion and Bhutan's intolerance of Christians.

For 2 Years, The Priest Aided Christians Through a Syrian Siege. He Didn’t See the End.
ICC Note: The Syrian conflict has claimed far too many lives. In Homs, an aged Dutch priest, who had lived with the Syrian people for decades, was brutally gunned down. Fr. Frans has left an indelible legacy in the city of Homs and the many lives he touched there. A truce was struck that finally opened up aid to the city, but this came a month after Fr. Frans killing.

Hundreds of Christians and Hindus Demand Equality for Christians in Nepal
ICC Note: Following the funeral of a Catholic leader in Kathmandu, hundreds of Christians and Hindus together peacefully demanded Nepal's secular government to grant equal rights to the country's Christian population. Among the issues highlighted, the creation of a Christian burial ground in Nepal was at the forefront. For years, this issue has been the subject of protests. Will this peaceful demonstration lead to real change?

Besides Suppression of Muslim Brotherhood, El-Sisi’s Plans for Egypt Are Unclear
ICC Note: As the elections in Egypt draw to an end, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi seems to be claiming a solid victory. With this new presidency, many wonder what he has in store for the future of Egypt, predominantly religious and other minorities. As El-Sisi was campaigning, he promised to restore the rights of citizenship to Egyptian Christians and is seen as a hero in their community for aiding in the downfall and outlawing of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Fate of Palestinian Christians May Reflect Character of Future State
ICC Note: A recent study published from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs documents in depth the tragedy and future implications of Middle Eastern Christians. As the study highlights, because of the severity of the persecution, many Christians have fled while these states continue to crumble under the instability. If left unaddressed, Christians will become the next religious minority on the line in the 21st century.

Archbishop’s Visit to Pakistan Meant to Encourage Pakistan’s “Growing” Church
ICC Note: Over the past week, the Archbishop of Canterbury has been visiting the heavily persecuted Christian community of Pakistan. Faced with the abuse of blasphemy laws, forced conversions and widespread discrimination, Christians in Pakistan say they feel "under siege." The Archbishop hopes his visit will help encourage Pakistani Christians and raise global awareness regarding the persecution they face.

Court Orders Return of Confiscated Church Materials, Uzbeki Authorities Unresponsive

Here’s What Obama Should Say To Mexico’s President
We have an explosive international incident developing over the false imprisonment of a U.S. Marine hero in Mexico. Remarkably, our President and Secretary of State have not even chosen to bring this issue up with Enrique Peña Nieto, the President of Mexico. The United States should have great leverage in this situation – if we had a real leader running this country. Unfortunately, we have the weak, feckless, neutered, bowing Barack Obama.

9 Healthy Food Scraps You Shouldn't Be Throwing Away
We waste a third of the world's food supply every year along with all the energy and water needed to produce it. However, we may be chucking away food scraps that are not scraps at all. Many fruit and vegetables have skins and leaves which we commonly discard that are more colourful and higher in nutritious phytochemicals like carotenoids and flavonoids than the flesh. These deliver a greater variety of antioxidants if we learn how to utilize them.

Can narcissists be moved to show empathy?
Researchers have investigated whether narcissists can elicit empathy for another person's suffering. It has been well documented that narcissists lack empathy, but why is that the case, and do they have the capacity to change that behavior? New research suggests that with the right focus, people with narcissistic tendencies can feel empathy for another person's suffering.

How developing neurons sense a chemical cue
New structural images help explain how young neurons make the right connections, showing how a signal, Netrin-1, interacts with specific receptors that tell neurons in which direction to reach. "Our work provides the first high-resolution view of the molecular complexes that form on the surface of a developing axon and tell it to move in one direction or another," says a structural biologist involved in the study. "This detailed understanding of these assemblies helps us better understand neural wiring, and may one day be useful in the development of drugs to treat spinal cord or brain injuries."

New printable robots could self-assemble when heated
New algorithms and electronic components could enable printable robots that self-assemble when heated. Printable robots — those that can be assembled from parts produced by 3-D printers — have long been a topic of research in Computer Science labs at MIT. Now researchers introduce a new wrinkle on the idea: bakable robots.

Australia's deadly eruptions were reason for the first mass extinction
Ancient volcanic eruptions in Australia 510 million years ago significantly affected the climate, causing the first known mass extinction in the history of complex life. Scientists used radioactive dating techniques to precisely measure the age of the eruptions of the Kalkarindji volcanic province.
