Tribe turns on turbine
Thad Roth approached the podium Thursday afternoon at Tamastslikt Cultural Institute, and was happily overshadowed by the towering wind turbine that spun lazily behind him. “I feel fortunate to be upstaged,” said Roth, renewable energy sector lead for the nonprofit Energy Trust of Oregon. “I can see everyone’s eyes looking up at the turbine. That’s what you should be looking at.”

Obama's Top 7 Lawless Actions
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has released a list of “lawless” actions by the Obama administration. Why 26 Democrats Think IRS Scandal ‘Doesn’t Smell Right’

243 Abducted Chibok Girls Face Rape, Enslavement
ICC Note:  Following their abduction the night of April 14, more than 240 girls, as many as 90% of whom are reportedly Christians, likely await life-long domestic and sexual enslavement. Monday, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau pledged to sell the girls on the marketplace, stating Allah had “instructed” him to do so. Likely referring to human trafficking rings in the Lake Chad region, the girls are suspected of having been transported across the Nigerian border to the shores of Lake Chad where they are reportedly being sold for $12 into forced marriages before being ferried into Chad and Cameroon.

Three Members of Shouwang Church in China Detained; Incarceration Time Increases to Five Days
Incarceration Time Increases for Three Members of Shouwang Church in China
Detention for five days marks new level of harassment for harried church.
ICC Note: The Beijing Shouwang (“to keep watch” in mandarin) church has been worshiping outdoors over three years after Chinese government prevented the church from renting a church building or getting the key to a church building they bought in 2009. On May 5, three members of Shouwang church have been placed in detention for five days, showing a higher level of harassment for the church meeting outdoors. Previously, police arrested church members during outside worships, but had not detained anyone for more than 48 hours.

Cross on Church Rooftops Demolished, Covered Up, and Resized in China
(Cross forcibly removed in Zhejiang province; Chinese government documents show a bleak outlook for house churches) ICC Note: The Chinese government has been forcibly tearing down the cross, the symbol of Christianity, from several churches’ rooftops and covering other crosses with canvas. We translated the article from Chinese to English and it discusses the ongoing church and cross demolition in Zhejiang province where Sanjiang church was forcibly removed early last week. The ongoing church and cross demolition shows a bleak outlook for Chinese churches and local believers are worried that the government may ultimately ban Christian gatherings. Local believers sadly expressed that the demolition of Sanjiang church might only be a start of an anti-Christianity campaign in the name of“removing illegal construction”. Obviously, “illegal construction” is not the point, the cross is: without any notice in advance, the government officials showed up at Baixi church in Zhejiang province which has all proper paperwork and permission before the construction of church building and torn down the cross.

Saeed Abedini’s Family Marks His Birthday As American Pastor Remains In Iranian Prison
ICC Note: May 7 marked Saeed Abedini’s 34th birthday and the second he has spent in captivity in Iran. The Iranian-American pastor was sentenced to eight years in prison for his religious activities. His family continues to press for his release. While his situation has mildly improved after being transferred to a hospital, his detention continues.

Autopsy of Christian Killed in Pakistan Raises Questions
ICC Note: The autopsy report on a dead Christian in Pakistan originally reported as a suicide victim has raised questions. According to the report, the Christian was shot in the head twice, indicating that he did not kill himself. The death of this Christian man came 24 hours after a Muslim co-worker demanded him to convert to Islam. The co-worker told the Christian that if he refused, something bad would happen. Please continue to pray for the family in Pakistan.

Fighting For The World’s Original Christians
ICC Note: At a press conference organized by Representatives Frank Wolf and Anna Eshoo, Religious Leaders announced a pledge of solidarity and a call to action on behalf of Christians in Iraq, Syria, and Egypt. In countries that are home to the world’s oldest Christian communities those churches are now under attack. A broad coalition of religious leaders, spanning the denominational spectrum spoke out in support of the measure and called for the church to stand together and to speak out on behalf of Christians in the Middle East.

Christian Rape Victim Kept from Medical Treatment for Two Days
ICC Note: In late April, reports of a 7-year-old Christian girl being raped by multiple Muslim men surfaced in Pakistan. Now sources are reporting that the Christian girl was kept from proper medical care for two days following the attack due to threats from the family of one of the attackers. Christians in Pakistan are known to be vulnerable targets for crime and discrimination. The rapists believed they would get away with their crime due to impunity generally given for crimes against Christian in Pakistan. Please pray for the recovery of this Christian victim and for the entire Christian community of Pakistan.

Mother's Day Turns 100: Its Surprisingly Dark History
As Mother's Day turns 100 this year, it's known mostly as a time for brunches, gifts, cards, and general outpourings of love and appreciation. But the holiday has more somber roots: It was founded for mourning women to remember fallen soldiers and work for peace. And when the holiday went commercial, its greatest champion, Anna Jarvis, gave everything to fight it, dying penniless and broken in a sanitarium.

Apricots Have A Far Greater Potential To Protect Your Eyesight Than Carrots Do
We've all been taught that carrots would keep our eyes sharp as a child, but as an adult, it looks like fruit such as apricots are even more important for keeping your sight. Data reported in a study published in the Archives of Opthamology indicates that eating 3 or more servings of fruit per day may lower your risk of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), the primary cause of vision loss in older adults, by 36%, compared to persons who consume less than 1.5 servings of fruit daily.

Regenerating plastic grows back after damage
Looking at a smooth sheet of plastic in a laboratory, no one would guess that an impact had recently blasted a hole through it. Researchers have developed materials that not only heal, but regenerate. Until now, self-repairing materials could only bond tiny microscopic cracks. The new regenerating materials fill in large cracks and holes by regrowing material.

These Are the Model Citizens of Europe’s Last Dictatorship
Described as “the last dictatorship in Europe,” Belarus is a notoriously difficult country for press to operate in. “Slander” laws that outlaw criticism of the president are written into the constitution. The largest TV station is government-run and is the main outlet for propaganda. Journalists have gone missing and photographers must be wary.

How Dumb Policies Scare Tech Giants Away From Federal ProjectsRegardless of political persuasion, few who ever visited or tried to use HealthCare.gov after its launch would argue that the Obamacare website was anything other than a colossal acquisition failure. The site wasn’t openly bid. It was limited to companies “pre-qualified” to do IT business for the feds. But the HealthCare.gov fiasco is only the visible tip of the iceberg that is federal government procurement, and notwithstanding the titanic disaster of that experience, neither Congress nor the administration is trying to fix it.
