Trader Joe's Proves That Obamacare Can Free Us From The Wrong Jobs

A House Church in Yunnan, China, Raided And Warned By Government Officials
(A House Church of Ethnic Groups in Yunnan Province in China was warned by local government officials of religious affairs ) ICC Note: ICC translated the Chinese report to English. Local government officials in Sibsongbanna, an autonomous prefecture in the south of Yunnan province, raided a Christian house church gathering on the past Sunday morning. They claimed that it was an “illegal gathering” and, if found again, the pastor will be arrested. Three weeks ago, the local police and government officials searched the pastor’s house and confiscated properties. The pastor was taken to the police station and interrogated if he had any connections with organizations overseas.

400 North Koreans travel to China desperate for food, find Living Bread
ICC Note: This article discusses the story that North Koreans travel to China to seek for food, but find Christ. The North Korean government has found that many North Korean get food and shelters at Christian churches close to the Sino-North Korean border and some became Christians when returning North Korea. Out of fear, the North Korean regime has eliminated the traveling permits for its citizens to visit China and warned the citizens not to contact Christian missionaries who reach out to North Koreans in China. Last month, North Korea even publicly blamed Christian missionaries for what they called “internal problems and human rights issues.”  An ICC contact on the ground said "the border is very tense right now."

Burmese Army Systematically Tortures Majority-Christian Kachin Civilians
Burmese Army Accused of Torture as Kachin Conflict Enters Fourth Year
ICC Note: Three years have passed since fighting resumed between the Burmese Army and Kachin rebels in the  north of the country. The Burmese Army was accused of systematically torturing the majority- Christian Kachin with brutal and inhuman tactic, including “beatings, sensory deprivation, and forcing victims to dig what they were told would be their own graves.” Even though the Burmese government claimed to the outside world that no attack is ongoing, the article points out that the Burmese Army has never stopped fighting in the past three years. Many of the Kachin people are still living in temporary shelters and fighting for survival with the bare necessities.

Why Didn’t Pres. Obama Negotiate to Free the American Pastor Held in Iran?
ICC Note: With the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, many are asking why Obama chose to negotiate for his life over others, particularly American-Iranian pastor Saeed Abedini. Pastor Abedini, who  was in Iran with government permission to work on a humanitarian project when he was arrested and then sentenced to 8 years in 2013 on charges related to his Christian faith. Obama mentioned Saeed Abedini to President Rouhani of Iran in his phone call in the fall of 2013. As Pastor Abedini remains in prison, it is time to start asking why the Obama administration has not done more.

Hagia Sophia Caught between Politics, History
ICC Note: Calls for Hagia Sophia, one of the oldest churches in Turkey,  to be converted back into a mosque for prayer continue to emerge. The rich history of this church is a major symbol for Christians in Turkey. Converted into a mosque following the conquering of Istanbul by the Ottomans, it became a museum in 1935, as part of the secular Turkish republic. The talk to convert it again into a mosque raises fears about an increasing Islamist agenda and greater troubles for the remaining Christian communities.

As Pope pursues peace, Middle East Christians seek survival
ICC Note: Pope Francis continues to try to bring peace to the unstable region of the Middle East. Yesterday Pope Francis led a prayer for peace with the Palestinian and Israeli presidents. Christians, however, are not as optimistic about peace efforts. Instead, Christians in Syria and Egypt seem to gravitate towards autocratic leaders to provide a break from Islamic radicalism. With elections ending in Egypt, el-Sisi has gained massive support from the Christians for ousting the Muslim Brotherhood. In Syria, the Christian population continues to dwindle as fighting rages on.

Court Committee Begins Deliberations on Appeal of Mother’s Death Sentence
ICC Note: Thursday, June 5, the Khartoum Court of Appeals formally convened a committee to issue a determination as to whether the court will or will not hear Meriam's case. That committe began its deliberations on Meriam's case Sunday, June 8. An appeal was filed with that court to contest the sentencing to 100 lashes and death Meriam Yahia Ibrahim, a 27-year-old mother of two and wife to an American citizen, for her Christian faith. That determination is expected to be issued by June 15 or later.

The Month of May Was a Busy Month for Blasphemy Law in Pakistan
ICC Note: Over the month of May, multiple blasphemy accusations were made against Jehovah Witnesses, a Muslim youth and an extremely television channel. This marks one of the busiest months for Pakistan's controversial blasphemy law. Often, Christians and other religious minorities suffer under the blasphemy law and are disproportionately accused and convicted. Most international human rights organizations agree that the laws are widely abused to settle personal scores, eliminate rivals or to persecute already vulnerable minorities.

BJP Vice Chairman Calls on Nepal to Immediately and Completely Ban Religious Conversions
ICC Note: With India voting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) into power in last month's elections, many Christians in South Asia fear for the future of religious freedom in the region. During a recent unofficial visit to Nepal, BJP's vice chairman called on Nepal to immediately and completely ban religious conversions, specifically citing Hindus converting to Christianity as a problem. Nepal, who is still transitioning from a Hindu monarchy to a secular republic, is currently drafting a constitution. This call by BJP could be seen as an attempt to keep religious freedom from being included in the final draft of Nepal's constitution.

Boko Haram Abducts At Least 20 Women from Fulani Village Near Chibok
ICC Note: According to village residents, armed Boko Haram militants abducted 40 women from Garkin Fulani Village in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State Saturday afternoon. Borno officials, speaking Monday, confirmed the abduction, but stated that only 20 woman had been abducted. According to witnesses, those abducted were young mothers. One in an alleged series of kidnappings across that region, Boko Haram is expected to ransom the women to help finance its ongoing campaign of terror. Roughly translated as "Western education is forbidden," Boko Haram is a radical, Islamic insurgency bent on establishing a separate Islamic state ruled by Sharia law. The United States designated Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organization in November of 2013. A United Nations Security Council designated the group a known al-Qaeda affiliate last month.
