When trafficking victims are shackled by debt, can financial institutions help?
"It really does come down to doing the right thing and helping young people get back on their feet so that they can be financially independent and have financial dignity," says Ashley Franssen-Tingley, programs co-ordinator at The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking.

VIDEO: Bitter Taste of Big Sugar's Corporate Welfare
John Stossel and the team at Reason TV have a new video out on the expensive and wasteful federal sugar program, which benefits a tiny handful of wealthy families while raising prices for everyone else.

FDA's Fake E-cigarette News
Journalists aren’t the only purveyors of “fake news.” Federal agencies also generate misleading headlines. Sometimes, they do it with a purpose.

Despite Green New Deal Complaints, House Democrats Rush Vote on New Climate Bill
On Thursday April 4th, the House Energy and Commerce Committee marked up H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, which was introduced only the week before. In so doing, it skipped several steps normally taken before such a markup, including holding a substantive hearing on the bill. Ironically, this comes shortly after Senate Democratic supporters of the Green New Deal complained about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) decision to bring that bill to a vote. Lead sponsor Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) specifically objected to the fact that the bill had not yet been the subject of any hearings and called the vote a “mockery” and a “sham.”  None of the twelve Democratic co-sponsors voted for their own bill, nor did any other Democrat. Senate Republicans all opposed it.

Follett: Scientific and Medical Advances Saved My Baby
Thanks to medical advances, the global rate of stillbirth per 1,000 births has fallen from 24 in the year 2000 to 18 in 2015, with decreases seen in all regions of the world. In my daughter’s case, for example, those advances included external monitoring of the fetal heart rate during labor and a cesarean delivery. Not only has there been progress in reducing stillbirths, but more and more children survive to see their first birthday. The global infant mortality rate per 1,000 live births fell from 65 in 1990 to less than 30 in 2017, according the World Bank.

Michael Cohen thinks he found a free get out of jail pass — 14 million files
Hillary’s ally and friend, Lanny Davis is also Michael Cohen’s lawyer. Michael Cohen was Donald Trump’s personal lawyer. Cohen now says a newly-discovered hard drive will be of interest to congressional committees but not if Cohen goes to jail. Lanny Davis wrote in an emailed statement Thursday evening that Cohen had recently obtained a hard drive containing “14 million files” related to his personal business and the Trump Organization which investigators could be interested in viewing, while cautioning that Cohen heading to prison would disrupt his ability to provide Congress with information.

2 Major Lawsuits Against the President Over Illegal Immigration
Nancy Pelosi is suing the President over his emergency declaration so he won’t get his wall. She can hold that up in court for years. San Diego is suing the President, claiming he’s abandoning asylum seekers which is absurd, but it works with activist judges. They are claiming all these illegal aliens are asylum seekers, although only about 10 percent turn out to be legitimate asylum seekers when they finally get their court dates.

AOC compares her “bold” Green New Deal to the fight for civil rights
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a live streaming video, compares the climate change fight to the fight for civil rights. She says in the video that people protested against civil rights for blacks just like the people are now mocking the doomsday predictions on climate change in the next 12 years. She said the Internet remembers everything and one day it will remember you fighting against taking bold action on climate change. The piece de resistance came when she said, “People who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I just pity you for your role in history right now.”

Beto Compares the Administration to the Third Reich
Beto said during a campaign event in Carroll, Iowa, this morning that he gave Valentine’s Day cards written by second-grade children to veteran’s because he wanted them to know the generation coming up cares about that. He boasted that he did it every year he was in Congress. Big deal. He’s proud of his photo-ops and didn’t do much else. No one, including Nancy Pelosi, knows what he accomplished while serving as a representative.

WILL DEMOCRATS RALLY BEHIND A HERMAN CAIN FED NOMINATION?
According to multiple reports, Donald Trump is preparing to nominate Herman Cain to fill one of the two vacant positions on the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors. Cain, the former CEO of Godfathers Pizza and a meme-friendly  2012 presidential candidate, shares several similarities to Stephen Moore, who was also nominated last month. To their credit, neither man comes from the arena of economic groupthink that persists among many central bankers. Both also owe their nomination to the strong personal relationship they both have with Trump, which is why the administration isn’t worried about their past superficial criticism of the low interest rate policy the president has made clear he desires. While Moore has been criticized strongly within beltway circles since his nomination, it will be interesting to see how Trump critics handle Mr. Cain. After all, he has the one quality Elizabeth Warren and other Democrats have chosen to focus on when it comes to a Federal Reserve nominee: he isn’t a white guy.

Why Trump Wants the Fed To Pump Even More Easy Money
After a decade of endless money pumping, Trump is mad the Fed is daring to make a minuscule cut to its endless-easy-money plan. The Fed is flying blind, but it at least recognizes that an easy-money-forever policy is a problem.

Capital is a Mystery to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Workers in rich countries have better lives than workers in poor countries because rich countries have more capital. But politicians like AOC actively try to destroy that same capital.

They need each other. Here's why. Science without philosophy would really just be a restricted, stale and instrumental form of science, lacking a fundamental part of what it means to understand the world we live in.
