Want to stop Russia from invading the Baltic States? Then bolster Poland’s military strength, and beef up U.S. troops in Poland. That’s the message of a new report on how NATO can defend its Eastern European border. “A future, more capable Polish military backed by a more robust U.S. forward presence in Poland could also foster the confidence needed for Warsaw to support the defense of NATO member territory located beyond its borders,” says the study, titled “ Strengthening the Defense of NATO’s Eastern Frontier ,” by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA).

After Mueller’s Exoneration of Trump, Full Disclosure
The news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has closed his investigation without recommending criminal charges against President Trump is a relief. It is not a surprise. Nor is it a surprise that the news has Trump antagonists clamoring for full disclosure of the special counsel’s final report. Mind you, when skeptics of the Trump-Russia investigation asked what the criminal predicate for it was, and on what basis the Obama administration had decided to monitor the opposition party’s presidential campaign, we were admonished about the wages of disclosure — the compromise of precious defense secrets, of deep-cover intelligence sources and methods. Why, to ask for such information was to be an insurrectionist seeking to destroy the FBI, the Justice Department, and the rule of law itself. Now, though, it’s only the uncharged president of the United States at issue, so disclose away!

Sue Lani Madsen: Showing true compassion for the homeless must include a candid assessment
Sustainable solutions require facing root causes. Those temporarily without housing due to financial setbacks or fleeing domestic violence are different populations than the chronically homeless. It’s not compassionate to enable those with disabling mental health conditions or addiction to live in squalor. They deserve better than to be left alone. And allowing uncivil behavior, sidewalk camping and drug use to go unchecked is not compassionate towards the larger community. They deserve better too.

China Provides $2 Billion Loan to Pakistan's Ailing Economy - Report
To help Pakistan weather its current fiscal woes, China has decided to provide a loan of approximately $2.1 billion. Pakistan's Finance Ministry announced on Friday that all procedural requirements for transfer of the loan by China to Pakistan have been completed. A Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the loan will further strengthen foreign exchange reserves and ensure balance of payment stability for Pakistan. The confirmation of the Chinese loan to Pakistan comes close on the heels of a warning by the US that China has a responsibility "to not shield" Pakistan.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Says Trump, Pence 'MUST GO' for Future of Humanity
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza called on US President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to step down "for the future of all humanity" in the wake of Pence's claim that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro "must go." Pence wrote in his article for Miami Herald that Maduro should step down "for the future of Venezuela" amid a political crisis in the Latin American country. "It's URGENT! For the future of all humanity, Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and company must go!" Arreaza wrote on Twitter on Friday.
