1969. ABC News Correspondents React to Nixon's "Silent Majority" Speech
President Nixon's silent majority speech on the war in Vietnam was televised live on November 3, 1969. After the speech, the three major networks brought on their news correspondents to react. Frank Reynolds anchored the ABC News broadcast, which featured reporters Bob Clark, Bill Downs, Tom Jarriel, Bill Lawrence, John Scali, and Howard K. Smith. Former New York Governor Averell Harriman was also featured. Vice President Agnew slammed the coverage, singling out comments made by Lawrence and Downs. He also complained of Marvin Kalb's analysis on CBS News.

Many local organizations offering free Thanksgiving meals next week
The City Gate, 170 S. Madison St., A community dinner will be served on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations or pre-registration is not required.
Union Gospel Mission, 334 W Spokane Falls Blvd., A community dinner will be served on Nov. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Spokane Convention Center. The entrance is through doors in the breezeway between the INB Performing Arts Center and the convention center.
Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave.,Thanksgiving turkey dinner will be offered to families on Nov. 22 beginning at 5 p.m. in the Salvation Army multipurpose room.
