Buildings 2




The Masonic Temple on Riverside Avenue west of Monroe Street was designed by architect John K. Dow and dedicated in 1905.  It was expanded in 1925.


Dedication of the Masonic Temple in 1904.  Between the Temple and the Monroe Street Bridge in the background is the Merchant's Hotel, Elijah Davenport's fourth hotel.  It was demolished in 1922 to make room for the expansion of the Masonic Temple.  (EWSHS photo L93-66.271)


The Empire State Building, Crescent Block and Review Building, on Riverside Avenue between Lincoln and Monroe.

The Realty Building, 242 W. Riverside Avenue, was the police station in the 1960s.


Traders Block, housing Traders National Bank, southwest corner  Riverside Avenue
and Howard Street (1891-1931).


The Eiler  Building, southeast corner Sprague Avenue and Post Street  (1911-1971).


The Y.M.C.A. Building, c. 1911, southeast corner First Avenue and Lincoln Street (1907-1964).


The Welch Building, nortwest corner Main Avenue and Howard Street.  Built in
1914, it housed the Culbertson-Grote-Rankin Department Store, which was taken
over by the Bon Marche, and is now Macy's.
