Railroad depots

The Union Depot, built jointly in 1914 by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway, and the Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company (owned by Union Pacific).  The Union Depot was demolished for room to build the 1974 World Fair.

The Great Northern Railroad reached Spokane from the east in 1892.  Its new depot, shown here, was built on Havermale Island, between Howard and Washington, in 1901.  It had the distinction of being the finest depot west of Chicago.  The depot, except the clock tower, was demolished in 1973 in preparation for Expo '74.
