Manito Park

The elk pond, c. 1915, one of the spring-fed ponds at Manito Park in the early days

Manito Park, c. 1912, at the intersection of Manito Place, Tekoa and Loop Drive.  In 1923, his spring fed pond was filled in and the "peanut shack" was built, which sold snacks for park visitors and peanuts for the monkeys.  It is now called the Park Bench Cafe.

During the years of the zoo's existence, the bear cages were located directly behind the Peanut Shack.
