About this section

IN THE NEWS is planned to be a selection of published News, Sports, and Features of particular interest to Cousin Sam, from the 1860s (and earlier) to the present, which show the context within which my family and friends have lived; and articles by or about them.  This will be a very long term project.

The first index selects the decade.  Entries in brackets have no content at this time.

The second index selects half years, and the third selects the date.

For the most recent decades, much of the content will be by link, particularly for newspapers which now have on-line editions.  As of  October 24, 2013, for The Spokesman-Review, that content begins May 6, 2004.

The Wenatchee World, had on line views by subscription beginning 2005 (January 2); but the website has been changed so that only the e-paper is available, and that starting October 1, 2010.

For content published prior to this date 75 years ago, all content is now in the public domain.

Content less from than 75 years ago that is not linked to its source is used by permission, unless it is in the public domain, such as from a government source, the copyright under the former rules was not renewed, or is available under a commons license, or "Fair Use" applies.

As of  March 18, 2013, a limited amount of content has been posted in the 1860s, 1890s, 1930s, 1940s, and 2000s.  Regular daily postings begin with May 1, 2012.

Current primary sources include The Spokesman-Review, KXLY 4 News, and NCWTV.com.

Food articles from the Spokesman-Review appear on Wednesdays.

The Wenatchee World, which is also used, allows a limited number of free views, after which a subscription is required.
