Nationalism as National Liberation: Lessons from the End of the Cold War
If we're sure secession in the name of national liberation is so awful, we end up supporting the Soviet Union, and every empire and two-bit dictator who manages to hammer together a variety of disparate groups under a single national banner.
The Case Against Political Activism
American politics is in crisis. Is this because of the Constitution, or in spite of it? For many libertarians, the Constitution is a dead letter. Nobody alive today signed it or consented to it. Shawn Vestal: Greater Idaho is a wonderful name for a bad idea
Lest you think we’re the only region with a tiny but incurable case of the crackpot secessionist bug, cast your eyes toward rural Oregon. There, the same set of delusions that animates the Liberty State movement in Eastern Washington has captured the attention of a few small-town ultraconservatives who are proposing something similarly impractical: merging rural Oregon with neighboring Idaho and northern California, to form a Trump-supporting homeland that excises all those nettlesome urban areas.
Elliott Nethercutt: Father’s 25 years led to satisfaction, no regrets

I was 9 years old and had the privilege of standing next to him when he took the oath on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on Jan. 3, 1995. Young and naive, I failed to fully appreciate the significance. One thing I do remember was my father’s motivation for seeking office in the first place: He wanted to represent his family, friends, neighbors and fellow citizens by listening carefully to their needs and priorities, and taking action to address them.

A Major Study That Fueled National Vape Panic Has Been Retracted
After months of pressure from the scientific community, the American Heart Association's academic journal on Tuesday evening retracted a widely circulated vaping study, which claimed that using e-cigarettes increased the likelihood of having a heart attack. In a statement explaining the retraction, editors at the Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA) expressed worry that the study may have been based on misleading data.
