‘Each day carries the fear of succumbing to the virus’: Anglicans in Italy experience coronavirus lockdown limbo
The novel coronavirus and the disease caused by it (COVID-19) continues to spread around the world. As of March 3, the World Health Organization reported more than 90,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in 74 countries, with 3,123 deaths caused by the virus. China remains the most affected country with more than 80,303 confirmed cases, followed by South Korea (4,812), Iran (2,336) and Italy (2,036). In Italy, the government has taken emergency measures to deal with the coronavirus: locking down cities, closing many public places such as schools, and restricting movement. The majority of cases have been in the Lombardy and Veneto regions, whose respective capital cities are Milan and Venice.

As Iran Becomes Ground Zero for Coronavirus Pandemic, Israel Becomes Ground Zero for Cure
On Monday, Iran’s Ministry of Health released new data concerning the coronavirus. It said that 66 people have died from the virus while 1501 have been infected. But given the Health Ministry’s propensity for lying, the figure for those dead and infected is likely much greater.

Washington state residents frustrated over obstacles to get coronavirus tests
As Washington state faces a rapidly evolving coronavirus outbreak, which has already claimed nine lives there, residents on Tuesday reported a frustrating array of misinformation and obstacles as they were seeking to get tested. One potential sufferer in the state, Jeannette Jameson, 61, a criminal defense lawyer, told the Guardian that she had been sick for about a month when her doctor suggested she go to an emergency room to be tested for the virus. Jameson said she never saw a doctor, and after testing negative for flu and being given a chest X-ray, she was discharged with papers that said she had “some non-specific respiratory virus”, along with prescriptions for ibuprofen and acetaminophen. After the flu test results came back and Jameson asked about the coronavirus test, she said the registered nurse practitioner told her: “You should be glad you don’t have influenza because that’s worse than coronavirus.” The death rate for coronavirus is much higher than for the flu. A frustrated Jameson later said she told the nurse: “This is like a third-world country.” The nurse responded: “Now you’re just being dramatic.” So Jameson still does not know if she has coronavirus.

The Mind Is A Map-Maker
A map of the Middle East after the World War I collapse of the Ottoman Empire and Caliphate shows no state boundaries, only lines of control by European powers over the territories vacated by “The Sublime Porte” -- the Islamic hegemon in Istanbul. Soon a grid of internationally recognized states would be dropped down to designate every territorial part of the region as a state, or mandated state-in-the-making.  The purpose was to welcome all the Arab-Islamic peoples of the Middle East into the legitimate modern world order, the “state” now being understood to be the basic unit of world affairs.  This new map of the Middle East fixed itself in the mind of those concerned with international affairs.

Benjamin Netanyahu defeats Gantz, but is still short a majority
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on track to win 59 seats for his bloc of right-wing and religious parties in Monday’s election, down by one from the 60 predicted by the initial exit polls. The new prediction leaves him two short of a majority in the Knesset. The numbers are expected to continue to change. The votes of soldiers, who tend to lean to the right, have not yet been counted and the Joint List tends to lose a seat when the soldiers’ votes are added.

Washington State risks seeing explosion in coronavirus cases without dramatic action, new analysis says
The coronavirus outbreak in the Seattle area is at a critical juncture and could see explosive growth in cases much like Wuhan, China, if public officials don’t take immediate, forceful measures, according to a new analysis of genetic data. The author of the analysis, a computational biologist named Trevor Bedford, said there are likely already at least 500 to 600 cases of Covid-19 in the greater Seattle area. He urged health authorities and the public to immediately begin adopting non-pharmaceutical interventions — imposing “social distancing” measures, telling the sick to isolate themselves, and limiting attendance at large gatherings.

Netanyahu vows to build ‘strong government’ as Likud celebrates ‘massive win’
After two failed tries to form a government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday declared a “gigantic victory” for his Likud party in Monday’s election, even as exit polls signaled he could yet struggle to form a majority coalition after the third election in a year. Netanyahu vowed to quickly build a “strong national government,” seemingly referring to a coalition of right-wing and religious parties, but also said he would heal the nation’s rifts sown by three successive campaigns.
