THE RENEWED DRIVE TO EXIT THE UNITED NATIONS
Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers has introduced a new bill (H.R. 193) to end U.S. membership in the United Nations. The bill is the reintroduction of his American Sovereignty Restoration Act (H.R. 1205) from the last Congress. And of course, that was basically the same bill introduced year after year by former Congressman Ron Paul. In the past, both Paul’s and Roger’s bills have been ignored by Congress, but things are changing. Americans are beginning to understand the UN threat.

Episcopal leaders address church’s part in Trump’s inauguration
The involvement of Washington National Cathedral and its choir in the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Donald J. Trump has stirred concern in parts of the Episcopal Church. The Cathedral Choir accepted an invitation to perform during the musical prelude to the Jan. 20 inauguration ceremony. That prelude begins at 9:30 a.m. EST. The actual ceremony is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. The cathedral confirmed three weeks ago that it would once again play out one of its traditional roles in U.S. life by offering Trump and the nation a chance to come together in prayer. The invitation-only 58th Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 21, the day after Trump is sworn in as the 45th president. After news of the choir’s participation prompted a deluge of comments on social media as well as emails to officials involved, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, Diocese of Washington Bishop Mariann Budde and Cathedral Dean Randolph Hollerith all issued statements on Jan. 12 addressing those concerns.

Discouraging business lending by credit unions may leave them in worse financial shape because they can’t diversify their lending. How can the Trump administration ensure that businesses and entrepreneurs can continue to get loans they need from credit unions?

Once Again, Feminists Silence Pro-Life Women
It’s 2017 and women are still being silenced. The twist is that it’s now by other women. The Women’s March on Washington, scheduled to occur the day after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, had listed a pro-life group, New Wave Feminists, as a partner organization. After The Atlantic highlighted the group’s participation as a partner in the march, the Women’s March took the group off the list, saying its inclusion had been an “error.”

Charles Stimson on Commutation of Chelsea Manning Sentence
On Tuesday, the Obama administration announced it would commute the sentence of former Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for illegally obtaining and sharing classified information with Wikileaks. By commuting Manning’s sentence, President Obama sends the worst possible message to military members: stealing classified information, enabling the enemy to access it, and endangering American and allied service members, is not a serious crime.

Putin controls 20% of US uranium production. That fact is established. But how did it happen? The Clintons were instrumental in making the uranium deal.

In the months leading up to the presidential election the American people were force feed a plethora of polls supposedly showing that Donald Trump had no chance of winning the election. Obviously these polls were monumentally wrong and now the corporate media has released two new “polls” which claim to show that Trump is the least popular president in the last four decades.

WORLD WITHOUT END: TRANSHUMANISM AND THE ETERNAL
The world wants a different kind of “world without end” than what the Church proclaims. As a Christian, I believe that I will live forever, but not because I am my own reason for being. If dying in Christ is the path to living with Christ, then my existence is primarily about my Creator and only secondarily about me.

Leonard Pitts Jr.: Trump may be becoming the new normal. I refuse to accept that.
Whether sickened by cancer, swamped by flood, broken by bankruptcy or savaged by war, we always find a way to accommodate ourselves to the new circumstance. With good humor and quiet courage, we accept the new normal. But I refuse to do that now.

What Republicans Miss About Healthcare Reform
Healthcare reform is back in the news as the Republican House and Senate have begun the process of repealing the Affordable Care Act. While Republicans have been able to consistently communicate the obvious problems with Obamacare, few have been able to articulate ways in which to improve what was already a broken healthcare system.

The Dangers of a "Universal Basic Income"
Finland has announced that it is conducting a social policy “experiment” which deserves closer examination. Through 2017 and 2018, Finland will provide a guaranteed basic income of 560 euros to 2,000 randomly selected welfare recipients. This benefit will be subtracted from other, currently existing welfare benefits that participants may be receiving, and, crucially, the payments will continue regardless of any other income that is earned. If a participant of this program finds a job, the government will continue to pay them the 560 euros in addition to any other income.

Theresa May’s Brexit speech is Angela Merkel’s victory – here’s why
It is a measure of Britain’s weak position that Theresa May accepts Angela Merkel’s ultimatum even before the Brexit negotiations have formally started. This is Germany’s gain. There is a general consensus that many banks are ready to move if Britain quits the single market, and Frankfurt is an obvious destination.

3 ways Tom Price wants to cut Medicare and Medicaid
Throughout his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump repeatedly promised he would not cut Medicare or Medicaid (or Social Security, for that matter). But with Trump’s pick to head the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), he seems prepared to violate that promise.
1. Privatize Medicare and convert it into a voucher.
2. Raise the Medicare eligibility age.
3. Slash Medicaid and convert it into a block grant.
