Released From Prison Because of “Too Many Phone Calls”
In March 2013, Alemayehu Legesse, a Bible school student in Ethiopia, was arrested for possessing literature that narrated Islam from a Christian perspective. ICC conducted an advocacy campaign on behalf of Alemayehu. Many of you called the Ethiopian consulate in the US and pressured them for his release. We learned that the Embassy decided to let him go because of “too many phone calls,” during our campaign! Although he is free now, Alemayehu still faces the false charges of criticizing Islam.

My Iranian Spring! Nowruz – How Do Iranian Christians See The Dawn Of A New Year?
ICC Note: As Iranian Christians are about to celebrate the Persian New Year, there is a feeling of despair as dozens of Christians remain in prison. Evangelical Churches and Christians are facing an intense crackdown, as bad as at any other time in the history of the Islamic Republic. While some names are known, unfortunately many Iranian Christians suffer persecution without ever being able to share their story.

Released Suspects in Malatya, Turkey Slayings Ordered to Wear Monitoring Devices
ICC Note: Due to a recent change in the judicial system, the suspects in the brutal murder of three Christians in central Turkey are currently out of prison. The law now limits the amount of time that a suspect can be held without being convicted. The murders took place nearly seven years ago and the court case has been repeatedly delayed as it has been entangled with other corruption and conspiracy theories. The five are still being monitored and a decision is expected to be rendered on their case in the coming months.

Christians in China Learn How to Defend the Church
ICC Note: In scattered provinces across China, Christians are studying law and learning how to offer a defense against government pressure on the church. While China's constitution protects full religious freedom and the Communist Party claims to allow religious freedom, across China millions of Christians are forced to choose between worshiping in government controlled "Three-Self" churches or in illegal house churches. Those who worship in house churches are subject to arrest and harassment. Increasingly, however, Chinese Christians are beginning to vocally and publicly standing up for their right to worship.

US, Germany Raise Pastor Saeed’s Case by Name at UN Human Rights Council
ICC Note: As world leaders meet to discuss human rights issues around the world, the wrongful imprisonment of Christians for their faith is a key issue of concern. Officials specifically raised the case of Pastor Saeed Abedini who remains in an Iranian prison, serving a sentence of eight years for his faith activities. World leaders continue to call for the release of Saeed, an Iranian-born American citizen.

Christian Professor Faces Job Discrimination After Conversion from Atheism
ICC Note: A professor of criminology at the University of North Carolina, Dr. Mike Adams, has filed a suit against the university saying he has been routinely discriminated against for his publicized and Christian based views on social issues since his conversion to Christianity in 2000. Before his conversion, Dr. Adams was regularly awarded for his work and promoted. This reportedly ended after he converted to Christianity, and in 2011 a U.S. court of appeals ruled that their was sufficient evidence in Dr. Adams case to warrant a trial. The case is part of a wider anti-Christian culture that has permeated academia for decades.

How Should Crimea Be Shown on National Geographic Maps?
The National Geographic Society, one of the only nongovernmental map policy bodies in the world, said Wednesday it had made no formal decision on Crimea, despite erroneous reports claiming it had remade its maps to depict Crimea as part of Russia. "We are waiting to see the results of Friday's [Russian] parliamentary vote," said Juan Valdes, the Geographer of the National Geographic Society. "If it is formally annexed, our policy will dictate that we shade the area gray, signifying that it is a disputed territory."
