Among the first settlers in the Chelan area was F. W. Easley and family, who arrived in June 1894. Easley had lived in Rosalia and is said to have traded a team, wagon and harness for some unsurveyed land in the Howard Flat area, about five miles northeast of Chelan. This was Easley’s first cabin.
