Beijing faces a diplomatic crisis after reports of mistreatment of Africans in China causes outrage
Beijing is facing a diplomatic crisis in Africa after reports of alleged coronavirus-related discrimination against African nationals in China sparked widespread anger across the continent. African students and expatriates in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou were last week subject to forced coronavirus testing and arbitrary 14-day self-quarantine, regardless of recent travel history, amid heightened fears of imported infections. Large numbers of African nationals were also left homeless, after being evicted by landlords and rejected by hotels in the city.

It seemed clear several weeks ago this was going to happen.  East coast blue state governors and West coast blue state governors are uniting to begin the economic civil war planning to block any White House effort to re-open the U.S. economy. ... The three step plan seems predictable: (1) Get out ahead of President Trump. (2) Defy the ‘all clear’ and shape economic benefit to their political allies. (3) Then use Fauci’s upcoming dossier to hit the administration for heartlessly opening the economy too early.

Millions of veterans to get letters this week on potential reimbursements for medical costs
More than one million veterans will soon be receiving instructions from Veterans Affairs officials on how to check if they are eligible for thousands of dollars in medical cost reimbursements as part of a court decision last fall. Starting today, department staffers will send letters to tens of thousands of veterans who were rejected for financial relief in recent years for bills they received for non-department emergency medical care. That move comes over VA objections concerning an ongoing lawsuit over the issue, which could add billions in new costs to the department’s budget.

How China is losing the world’s trust following its cover-up of the coronavirus crisis
Beijing failed to go public with the true scale of the pandemic, hampering other nations’ ability to respond in time. China’s rise on the global stage was made possible by the goodwill of the rest of the world, and trust that had been hard earned should not be so easily squandered.

Ok, Google, Play Funeral March: NASA Says Two Asteroids Will Intersect Earth’s Orbit This Week
NASA’s tracking system has detected two asteroids that will fly close to Earth this week. According to the space agency’s Centre for Near-Earth Objects, 2020 GH2 and 2020 FX3 belong to the most dangerous category of Apollo asteroids, meaning their orbits intersect with that of our planet. Both objects were categorised as potentially hazardous and will fly past our planet on 15 April. But these two celestial objects are merely peanuts compared to a whopper of an asteroid that will swoosh past the Earth on 29 April. The good news is this behemoth will be 3.9 million miles away from Earth when it flies past our planet.

A First Look at Timothée Chalamet in Dune
Part one of our preview of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the epic sci-fi novel.
This is the first look at Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides on his native planet of Caladan from this December’s film version of the novel, directed by Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. The 1965 book was so seismic in its influence that its echoes still turn up in sci-fi and fantasy storytelling half a century later. Still, it has stubbornly defied appropriate adaptation itself.
