Mexico holds up Trump-sought oil truce
Oil prices dipped into sub-$24 per barrel territory on Friday ahead of a G20 summit, as doubts grew that producers could hammer out concerted global cuts to production. The night before, OPEC kingpin Saudi Arabia and allied Russian-led producers failed to seal a 10 million barrel per day cut sought by US President Trump. Mexico threw a wrench into the planned joint action. Mexican Energy Secretary Rocio Nahle said her country would be willing to shave off only 100,000 bpd for the coming two months, not the 400,000 outlined in the agreement. “The agreement is conditional on the consent of Mexico,” an OPEC readout said.

Rethinking globalization in a post Covid-19 world
There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic is one of the biggest disasters that the world has seen in many decades. The intensity of this catastrophe cannot be measured only by the present number of infections or deaths, but also needs to take into account the consequences of the acute financial crisis that will ensue after the global public health situation is somewhat brought under control.

Thieves, vandals target private construction sites idled by pandemic
The halt in construction caused by Governor Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order is also leading to a sharp increase in squatting, theft and vandalism at many private job sites. Across the state, home builders are now pushing for the governor to revise his order. They contend that Inslee has already made exceptions for other industries and they too can find ways to protect workers and still safeguard their projects.

Democrats want to drop Joe Biden for Andrew Cuomo, poll finds
A majority of Democrats want to nominate New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for president instead of Joe Biden, according to poll results shared exclusively with The Post. The national poll found 56 percent of Democrats prefer Cuomo, with 44 percent wanting to stick with presumptive nominee Biden — a 12-point margin well outside the 4.8 percent margin of error for the Democratic sample. Hispanic voters, young people, women and self-identified liberals are most likely to favor dumping the former vice president for Cuomo. The poll, conducted April 3-6, was commissioned by the conservative pro-market Club for Growth.

Coronavirus response makes Cuomo a presidential candidate — but not in 2020
Andrew Cuomo for president – you bet! But not in 2020, as long Joe Biden is the Democratic candidate, a top political adviser to the New York governor said. The bombshell poll showing a majority of Democrats would ditch former Vice President Joe Biden for Cuomo as the Democratic nominee confirms that the New York governor has become a national superstar for his steady leadership during the coronavirus pandemic, said New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs.

The Surveillance State Thrives During the Pandemic
Can we take government officials at their word that they'll eventually abandon their new powers?
From cellphone tracking to drone eyes in the sky, perused health records, and GPS ankle bracelets, an epidemic of surveillance-state measures is spreading across the world. It's all done in the name of battling the spread of COVID-19, of course, since every crisis is used to justify incursions into our liberty. But long after the virus has done its worst and moved on, we're likely to be stuck with these invasions of our privacy—unless we push back, hard.

Ron Paul calls on Trump or 'the people' to fire Anthony Fauci
Former congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul called for the firing of Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, and called him a “fraud.” “He should be fired, but if you don’t do it in the literal sense, the people have to fire him,” the Texas Republican said on his show. “They have to fire him by saying, ‘He’s a fraud.’” Paul previously suggested the coronavirus was a “big hoax” and the actual “danger of the disease massively exaggerated by those who seek to profit — financially or politically — from the ensuing panic.”
