Mueller Refuses To Allow President Trump To Answer Questions In Writing
Last week, a federal judge in Virginia questioned whether Mueller is going too far in his investigation, possibly overstepping his authority by going after crimes unrelated to Russia in the 2016 election. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is now on President Trump’s legal team, told CBS News correspondent Paula Reid Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller’s office has rejected proposals to allow Mr. Trump to answer questions from investigators in writing.

The U.S. Has a YUGE Merchandise Surplus with China (and That's Okay)
Sure, it causes some reconfiguring of the American economy, but that has made us incredibly wealthy.

Marcus Aurelius on How to Turn Around a Rotten Day
Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius believed that battling reality was futile. Today, like most days, it will probably be too hot or too cold. Traffic will be terrible. Troubling events will happen in the world. Your colleagues and even family members may not see things your way, and you may experience some interpersonal conflicts. Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius was a Stoic philosopher. He would say, Nothing has to go right today for you to act with honor and character.

F.A. Hayek contributed a huge body of work to the advancement of liberty. Here are a few choice selections.

Supreme Court To Review Important Class Actions Case
Last week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case challenging class action abuse. In 2015, over 129 million people alleged that Google violated their privacy. The attorneys agreed to an $8.5 million settlement, but rather than award the money to the plaintiffs, the agreement awarded $3.2 million to the attorneys and the remaining $5.3 million to organizations advocating for privacy on the internet. Several of the organizations that received the award are university centers at the attorney’s alma maters. The 129 million plaintiffs, who were actually harmed by Google, received $0.

"...since the health care sector in the United States is one of the fastest-growing industries, political, legislative and regulatory authorities are unable to cope with the speed of change, given fluctuations in development and with structural dynamics in the 6th Kondratiev wave. Incapable of adapting agile governance principles (see Schwab, 2017: 67-71) – where regulators find ways to adapt continuously to a fast changing environment – the political elite in the United States slowly but surely is losing power. From this point of view, the election of Donald Trump, who brought about two dozen billionaires to high positions in the federal government, reflects intense inter-elite rivalry: power is shifting from a sluggish and inert political class (especially the establishment!) to an energetic and predatory business elite."

Border Patrol is opening up an office in Spokane to be staffed by around 30 agents
Last week, the Inlander reported that the city's plans to open up a one-stop social services shop to address homelessness in the city's Intermodal Center had run into a major snag: The center also houses the Greyhound depot, which has, for many years, been a target for Border Patrol sweeps. Worried that the Border Patrol activity would discourage vulnerable individuals from accessing the social services facility, City Council President Ben Stuckart, vowed to oppose the funding of the facility until his concerns about the Border Patrol sweeps could be addressed. But when several City Council aides and city staffers met with Border Patrol on Friday to hear more about their operations, they learned that Border Patrol — not only doesn't plan to decrease its emphasis on Spokane — planned to actually expand its operations. Today, a press release made that official: Border Patrol was reopening its facilities at 10710 N. Newport Hwy., just east of Whitworth University.  The facilities had been shuttered a decade ago in response to attrition from Border Patrol agents.

Trump Withdraws U.S. From ‘One-Sided’ Iran Nuclear Deal
President Donald Trump declared Tuesday that he was pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal, unraveling the signature foreign policy achievement of his predecessor, Barack Obama, and isolating the United States among its Western allies. “This was a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made,” Trump said at the White House in announcing his decision. “It didn’t bring calm, it didn’t bring peace, and it never will.” Trump’s announcement, while long anticipated and widely telegraphed, plunges U.S. relations with European allies into deep uncertainty. They have committed to staying in the deal, raising the prospect of a diplomatic and economic clash as the United States reimposes stringent sanctions on Iran. It also raises the prospect of increasing tensions with Russia and China, which also are parties to the agreement.

Why Millennial Women Want to Date Older Men
Older men are attentive, they aren’t threatened by your career success, they didn’t grow up watching porn on their laptops, and they certainly don’t expect sex from you before you’ve even had a chance to meet. It’s not an “old-fashioned” dating scheme, it’s just a more humane one. “I wasn’t trying to go back in time,” Gabrielle added at the end of our conversation. “Nobody wants to go back to the 1950s, we just want to be treated with respect.” But there are downsides to large age disparities, and women in particular sacrifice a great deal when they make this choice. Child-bearing and rearing becomes complicated, not to mention the potential for earlier onset of age-related medical challenges, as well as confronting constant social stigma. It’s all pretty inconceivable in the long term, and yet it’s happening all the same. That’s how badly women want to escape the Tinderverse.

It is already possible, with a little tech savvy, to produce an image or video of you doing something you never did. A nation where climate change is a hoax, but the Hillary Clinton pedophile ring is real, where trust in news media is declining but measles is staging a comeback, is a nation sowing the seeds of its own demise.  Worse, it’s a nation spoiling for a hard lesson from an unforgiving teacher. See, you may ignore reality all you wish. Reality will never return the favor.

How should we respond to this transgender moment?
When it comes to the issue of transgenderism, there appears to be one thing everyone is agreed on: it is complex and challenging! The claims of transgender ideology appear to have rushed on us in a moment; the issues involved touch everyone very deeply; there are bizarre contradictions between advocates of transgender ideology and the other elements of the LGBT+ community, and even within the transgender ‘community’ itself; and philosophical questions seem to blur into some real and personal issues of deep pain which demand a pastoral response.
