Facebook, Aiming for Transparency, Details Removal of Posts and Fake Accounts
Facebook has been under pressure for its failure to remove violence, nudity, hate speech and other inflammatory content from its site. Government officials, activists and academics have long pushed the social network to disclose more about how it deals with such posts. Now, Facebook is pulling back the curtain on its efforts. On Tuesday, the Silicon Valley company published numbers for the first time detailing how much and what type of content it takes down from the social network. In an 86-page report, Facebook revealed that it deleted 865.8 million posts in the first quarter of 2018, the vast majority of which were spam, with a minority of posts related to nudity, graphic violence, hate speech and terrorism.

VA officials hold grand opening Monday in Spokane that helps homeless vets
A crowd gathered Monday to listen to Spokane Mayor David Condon welcome the grand opening of Veteran Affair’s Homeless Outreach center. The center, which has been operational at its new location since Feb. 22 but didn’t get all of its final furniture in place until April, is a complete, one-stop shop for any veteran staring at hard times, said Shannon Dunkin, who is the coordinator for Healthcare for Homeless Veterans. North Korea has started the dismantlement of facilities at its only-know Punggye-ri nuclear test site, media reported citing satellite images from May 7. According to the 38 North website, North Korea has already demolished several support buildings and removed some of the rails for mining carts. Pyongyang said last week it would dismantle the site on May 23-25.

With an anticipated peak water level coming Saturday night, Colville tribal response to flood of the Okanogan River ramped up through the weekend and into the week. By Tuesday, the tribal government had allocated 100 employees and heavy equipment to the response “to prepare homes and tribal facilities against flooding expected later this week.”
