SEATON OBITUARIES

     This is of one of my mother's cousins.  The date is missing, but it would have been in late 1973 or early 1974, and the paper would have been the Wenatchee Daily World, the Grand Coulee Star, or possibly the Spokesman-Review..

Frank Seaton

     NESPELEM -- Frank Seaton, 60, Nespelem, died late Friday evening in a Wenatchee convalescent home.
     He was born on Nov. 25, 1913, at Soap Lake and attended highschool at Wilbur.  During his early years he helped his grandfather and father operate a ferry across the Columbia River near where Spring Canyon Recreation area is located.  On Dec. 16, 1939, he married Velda Carstens at Grand Coulee.  They owned and operated a cattle ranch and fishing resort at McGinnis Lake.  In 1960 the family moved to Nespelem where he did law enforcement work for 10 years.  He also drove school bus and worked part time with the Park Service at Coulee Dam.
     He was a member of the Cattlemen's Association.
     Surviving are his wife, at the home; two sons, Tom of Ontario, Ore., and Jerry of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
     Barnes Chapel, Grand Coulee, is in charge of arrangements.

     FRANK SEATON -- Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday from the Barnes Chapel with the Rev. James Updike officiating.  Buriel will be in the Spring Canyon Cemetery.  The Family has requested those wishing may make memorials to the Cancer Fund.   Barnes Chapel, Grand Coulee, in charge of arrangements.

     Ruth Kelley, 7 September 1915 -- 22 September 1965, was the sister of Frank Seaton.  This appeared in the Grand Coulee Star, Thursday, Sept. 30, 1965. (Uncle George mentions Joe Gray in his v-mail of Feb 8, 1945, posted April 26, 2011. See also Eunice Seaton post of May 20.)

Services Held for Ruth Kelley

     Funeral rites were held for Ruth Kelley, a long-time resident of this area, last Saturday from St. Benedict's Catholic Church.  Mrs. Kelley died suddenly Wednesday morning at her home in Coulee Dam.  She was born September 7, 1915.
     Mrs. Kelley had been very active in community affairs and church work.  She worked at the first Coulee Dam cooperative, was a former postmistress at Osborne, was employed at Boeings and taught school.
     Her church activities included secretary of the Altar Society, headed the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine at St. Benedicts, and taught church classes for many years.  She served as president of the Okanogan Deanery of Catholic Women and headed the Cancer drive at Coulee Dam.
     Mrs. Kelley was a member of a pioneer family here that operated the original ferry system across the Columbia river near the present site of Grand Coulee Dam.
     Survivors include her husband, Joseph, son Patrick at the home; brother, Frank Seaton, Nespelem; an uncle, Sam, at Seaton's Grove; neice and nephew, Joseph Gray and Joanne (Gray) Leach.
     Burial was in Spring Canyon Cemetery.
     Rosary was said for Mrs. Kelley at St. Benecict's Church, Friday night.  The Rev. Edmund Robinson of St. Mary's mission near Omak, of which Mrs. Kelley was a fond benefactor, lead these prayers, with the people of the parish and friends assisting.
     The funeral Mass was offered Saturday morning at 11, also in St. Benedict's church.  Several priests were in the sanctuary.  The pastor, the Rev. John P. O'Brien was celebrant, assisted by fromer pastors: the Rev. Cornelius Verdoorn reading the Epistle, the Rev. William Brennan, delivering the homily, and the Rev. Terrence Tully reading the Gospel.  Also assisting in the sanctuary were the Rev. Gerald Corrigan of Grand Coulee, and Fathers Kolhman and Obersinner from St. Mary's Mission.  Father Obersinner conducted the graveside services.
     Altar boys were: Jim Henke, Bill Gray, Mike Poch, Jerry Birdwell and Tim Lynch.

Joseph J. Kelley

     COULEE DAM -- Joseph J. Kelley, 65, of Coulee Dam, died Monday in a Grand Coulee hospital.
     Mr. Kelley was born March 1, 1912, in Neward, N.J.  He married Ruth E. Seaton.  He moved to the Coulee Dam area in the early 30s where he worked in a grocery store as a produce manager.  In 1947 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and retired from there in 1965.
     Mr. Kelley was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church.  He served in the Army during World War II.
     Surviving are a son Patrick, Spokane; and two grandchildren.
     Scharbach Funeral Home, Grand Coulee, is in charge of arrangements.


     JOSEPH J. KELLEY -- Funderal services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Benedicts Catholic Church at Coulee Dam with Rev. John Glatt officiating.  Interment will be in the Spring Canyon Cemetery.  Scharbach's Funeral Home, Grand Coulee, in charge of the arrangements.
