The US should change its approach to Iran
The Trump administration is totally mistaken if it believes that a ratcheting up of pressure, coupled with closer policy alignment with Israel and Saudi Arabia, will force an Iranian retreat in the region.

A Valentine For Capitalism
On Valentine’s Day, we should celebrate capitalism not only for the prosperity it creates, but for the many ways in which it fosters and validates friendships, enriching the vast array of connections that bind us together in civil society. Valentines strengthen friendships between current (or hoped for) friends but commerce goes further making friends of strangers.

Judge Rules Health Insurance Companies Matter More Than Taxpayers
Largely overlooked last week in the wake of President Donald Trump’s court battle was another controversial judicial ruling. On Thursday the US Court of Claims rewarding Moda Health, an Oregon-based health insurer, $214 million for losses it took participating in the high risk insurance pools established under the Affordable Care Act. The dispute came after Republicans eliminated funding for tax payer subsidies to those firms that lost money writing insurance for high risk individuals.

"Real Wealth" vs. the Boom-Bust Cycle
For many, it has now become settled wisdom that the massive monetary pumping by the US central bank during and after the 2008 financial crisis saved the US and the world from another Great Depression. The reality, however, is quite different. It is not a collapse in the money stock that sets in motion an economic slump but rather the prior monetary pumping that undermines the economy’s pool of real wealth by falsifying market signals and creating massive distortions that “prime” the economy for any subsequent reduction of the flow of credit. In a boom-bust economy, there is real wealth, and there is bubble wealth. Economic busts are a "cleansing mechanism" that clears out the bubble wealth.

The Goal of Socialists Is Socialism — Not Prosperity
Some claim that if socialists understood economics they wouldn't be socialists. This is doubtful since the larger motivation is often political control.

California Gov.
