Trump won't immediately appeal travel ban halt to Supreme Court
The Trump administration will not immediately appeal the decision blocking its travel ban to the Supreme Court, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN. The decision to not go to the Supreme Court comes as the White House is examining several options to save President Donald Trump's controversial executive order on immigration.

Trump Skips Networks at Press Conference With Japanese Prime Minister
Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe conducted a press conference at the White House on Friday in which all liberal three networks were not chosen to ask questions. ABC didn’t even bother to cover the event live. Only CBS and NBC broke in. Instead, Trump called on Daniel Halper of the New York Post and Blake Burman of Fox Business. Prime Minister Abe took questions from Japanese reporters. On January 27, during a joint press conference with Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump also skipped the networks, instead calling on Reuters, BBC, Fox News and The British Sun.

Union memberships keep declining. The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics report on union membership found the trend has not changed. This time, it's declined to the lowest point in United States history since the agency began keeping track. In 2015, the public and private sector union membership rate was 11.1 percent of the combined workforce. It dropped to 10.7 percent in 2016, a loss of 240,000 union members.

Trump May Suspend Obama-era Rules on Conflict Minerals
The Dodd-Frank Act’s “conflict minerals” rules have backfired, causing malnutrition, misery, and violence in Congo, a large country in the heart of Africa. Their intended purpose was to rein in violent militias in the eastern part of the nation, but they actually helped make militias more violent. Destabilizing a war-torn country that is a source of key minerals is certainly not in America’s national security interest.

There Are Still 117 Court Vacancies To Be Filled By Trump
President Donald Trump’s influence on the federal judiciary goes further than just filling one seat on the Supreme Court. The president needs to fill 117 vacancies on various federal courts. On Jan. 31, Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. While this was certainly an important seat to fill, more than 13 percent of all lifetime judiciary positions remain vacant. The U.S. Court of Appeals currently has 18 vacancies, the District courts have 91, the Court of International Trade has 2 vacant seats, and the Court of Federal Claims has 6. Many of these picks would have the potential to change the balance of several U.S. courts.

Immanuel Kant and the Philosophy of Freedom
If you want to understand the moral basis of a free society, there might be no better place to start than the thought of Immanuel Kant. He is the most significant and widely discussed moral philosopher in history. And he was self-consciously an Enlightenment liberal who believed in limited government and maximum freedom.

British officials drop plans for Donald Trump to address parliament
UK state visit will take place during recess to avoid snub by MPs – and president’s exposure to public protests will be limited. The government has abandoned the idea of Donald Trump addressing the joint Houses of Parliament when he comes to Britain for a state visit later this year after objections by MPs led by the Commons Speaker John Bercow. The US president’s controversial visit is now expected to run from a Thursday to a Sunday in late summer or early autumn, with officials trying to ensure that Trump is not in London at a time when parliament is sitting, in order to avoid a formal snub.

Court Ruling Against Trump’s Executive Order Shows the Worst of Judicial Activism
Neither the judge in Washington state nor the court has offered anything approaching a detailed discussion of 8 U.SC. §1182 (f), the law which specifically gives the president authority to suspend the entry of any aliens into the U.S. if he believes their entry would be “detrimental to the interests of the United States.” Unless this statutory provision is unconstitutional, the president has acted completely within the law. The 9th Circuit Court's ruling was an exercise in judicial arrogance.

Neil Gorsuch Is Trump’s Best Revenge for Judicial Activism
With a war in the courts looming, the confirmation process for Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch takes on added significance. Trump can defeat judicial activism by appointing judges like Neil Gorsuch.

A Guide to Tax Reform in the 115th Congress
America needs tax reform. Correctly structured tax reform can make a large contribution to restoring prosperity, increasing job creation, and higher wages. It can make the tax system fairer and less burdensome. Both congressional leaders and President Trump have identified tax reform as a priority, and there is clear public support for major tax reform. Tax reform, however, is a complicated issue that encompasses a wide variety of sub-issues with which Congress will need to contend and properly resolve if tax reform legislation is to achieve its proponents’ objectives.

The New York Times is now lobbying FOR the Muslim Brotherhood
The establishment paper that has spent months attacking the very idea of America first is now actively lobbying and promoting the Muslim Brotherhood after President Trump indicated he may designate the group as a terrorist organization. In a bizarre piece by the Times editorial board, the paper attacks the President for considering a terror designation that the likes of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and UAE have already done.

Why More Women Are Terrorists Today
For their children's protection, American parents can't be complacent in public places
When U.S. commandos conducted a raid in Yemen recently, they came into contact with women, it was reported last week. BRINGING BACK THE ’GESIMAS: A LITURGICAL PROPOSAL
There used to be (before about 1967 or so) a tradition of "Pre-Lent," which began on the 3rd Sunday before Ash Wednesday, and essentially extended Lent liturgically for three more weeks. That would start tomorrow in this year's calendar. Here's a proposal to bring "the 'Gesimas" back. Pruned of the Gesimas, Lent is a far less coherent season. Ash Wednesday comes out of the blue, as congregants spent the Sunday prior contemplating the splendors of the Holy Mount.

Op-Ed: We may live in a post-truth era, but nature does not
In the 1870s, spectacular rains began to fall on the Western Plains, turning a dry region then named “the Great American Desert” to gorgeous green. Thousands of young homesteaders rushed west to raise crops and families, convinced by a humdinger alternative fact: “Rain Follows the Plow.” The more people moved to the Plains, the widely reported theory went, the more it would rain. Federal scientist and explorer John Wesley Powell, head of the U.S. Geological Survey, told Congress otherwise in his 1878 “Report on the Lands of the Arid Region of the United States.” Not nearly enough rain fell in the region to quench the yeoman farmers over the long haul. Development should occur around watersheds; farmers would have to come together to share a scarce resource.

Now that 2016 is gone and President Obama is a thing of the past, we can take a look back at just how much government spending grew during his tenure. It seems that in his eight year tenure, Obama never managed to top the enormous increases in government spending that occurred under presidents Reagan and George Bush. In fact, Obama doesn't even come close.

Donald Trump Is the Least of Latin America's Worries
While there are legitimate concerns about the impact of Trump’s more protectionist economic measures and immigration policies, the principal threat to Latin America countries’ stability still remains the same — their very own governments. The regimes of Latin America have been quite successful at destroying their own economies — without any help from Donald Trump.

Chaffetz's Support Of Trump Brings Boos And Jeers At Utah Town Hall

On their final show, Dick read a letter he and Tom had gotten from former President Johnson. These days, President Trump responds to Saturday Night Live skits with angry tweets. Iran dials down U.S. rhetoric on anniversary of 1979 Islamic revolution
“Today’s rally shows that the government does not want any confrontation with the U.S.,” an expert close to the Iranian government said Friday. Almost exactly 38 years after an Islamic insurgence knocked down the last leg of Iran's royal monarchy -- a victory that would later set off an epic standoff with the United States -- Tehran on Friday celebrated the historical milestone while casting a leery and watchful eye on the new American president. Rallies around Iran on Friday marked the national holiday celebrating the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which ousted the U.S.-backed shah. Anti-American rhetoric at this year's commemoration, however, was more subdued than usual. Some expected harsh government condemnation towards President Donald Trump's new administration, but none was uttered -- not by President Hassan Rouhani or Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Backing away from a fight, Trump to honor one-China policy
President Trump just backed down from what could have been a serious fight with China. On Thursday evening in Washington, he appeared to shy away from confrontation with Beijing by agreeing to honor the one-China policy, during a lengthy telephone call with China’s President Xi Jinping. The move is set to ease tensions between the world’s two most powerful nations: relations had been inflamed after Trump suggested he would only commit to the one-China policy if Beijing addressed his concerns about trade and currency issues.

FLASHBACK: ELIZABETH WARREN ONCE PROMOTED SCHOOL VOUCHERS
Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s main problem with President Trump’s nominee for education secretary, Betsy DeVos, was DeVos’ support for “school choice,” accomplished largely through a system of vouchers that would enable students in poor neighborhoods to go to better schools. But Warren herself, a champion of the Democratic Party’s far left, was once an eloquent advocate of vouchers.
