N.Y. Congressman Grimm Paid Off-Books and Lied, U.S. Says
U.S. Representative Michael Grimm, a New York Republican up for re-election this year, paid workers at his Manhattan restaurant off the books to skirt state and federal taxes and lied about it, federal prosecutors said, unsealing a 20-count indictment. The congressman, elected amid a Tea Party wave in 2010 promising to get “big government out of the way,” is the only Republican member of New York City’s congressional delegation.

Norway: Peace prize or salmon exports
Norway’s rejection of the Dalai Lama is sadly reflective of China’s growing influence.
Norway wears its status as homeland of the Nobel Peace Prize proudly, which is why the decision by its prime minister not to meet with the Dalai Lama was so disappointing. The Norwegian leader, Erna Solberg, bowed to pressure from China and won’t meet with the exiled Tibetan during his visit next month. China, which invaded Tibet in the early 1950s, accuses the Dalai Lama of fomenting separatism, and has insisted that foreign governments cut off contact with him. For decades, though, most countries ignored those demands, and rightly so: All governments should listen to diverse points of views, and just because an official meets with a leader like the Dalai Lama shouldn’t be taken as an endorsement.

John Kerry apologises for Israel 'apartheid' remarks
The US secretary of state, John Kerry, has apologised for warning that Israel risked becoming an "apartheid state" if it did not reach a peace deal with the Palestinians, following a barrage of criticism in America.  In a statement, Kerry hit back at what he described as "partisan political" attacks against him, while stating that in retrospect he would have chosen a different word.

Christian Converts Arrested at Easter Service in Iran
ICC Note: Five believers who were meeting together in a private house in an Easter service were arrested in southern Tehran on Friday, April 18. According to reports the security forces raided the house and also destroyed satellite dishes positioned on the apartment building. The current location of the five individuals is currently unknown.

Christians Mark Easter With Optimism And Concern in Turkey
ICC Note: While the violence against religious minorities in Turkey has largely gone away, the situation for Turkey’s Christians remains one of concern. Many of the country’s ethnic Christian minorities are fading away because of an aging population and the younger generation looking for opportunities elsewhere. A positive step was seen in rule changes have allowed Christians to reclaim land that had previously been confiscated by the state, but the process has been far from complete with many claims still outstanding.

Syria’s Assyrians Threatened By Extremists
ICC Note: As Assyrian Christians remember the 99 year anniversary of a bloody massacre and forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of Assyrians, in addition to many other religious and ethnic minorities, they are also presently experiencing intense suffering. The presence of violent extremist groups in Syria has had brutal consequences for all Syrians, and religious minorities have experienced much of the worst. Church leaders are praying and urging their people to stay, but in light of the suffering and threats they face it is clear why many choose to leave.

Nigerian School Girls Forecfully Married to their Militant Adbuctors
ICC Note: Two weeks following their initial abduction, a majority of the 234 reportedly still missing school girls abducted from a secondary school in the predominantly Christian village of Chibok have allegedly been married to their captors and ferried into Chad and Cameroon. One in a series of attacks carried out by Boko Haram militants, the parents of the abducted, civilian vigilante forces, and the Nigerian army continue to sweep Northeast Nigeria's Sambisa forest in hopes of finding and freeing the girls.

Forced Conversion of Christians Becoming Disgracefully Common in Pakistan
Forced conversion in Pakistan is becoming more of an issue of concern for the Christian community. In April, stories of Christians being affected by the issue of forced conversion reared its ugly head on multiple occasions and reminded us how it is an issue that is a concern for every member of Pakistan’s already extremely persecuted Christian community. Reports of hundreds of Christian women forcefully converted to Islam every year, a Christian man being murdered for refusing to convert to Islam, and a Christian family being forced to flee their home for their children’s safety shows how widespread and common forced conversion has become in Pakistan.

Modi’s Ignorance to Incidents of Christian Persecution in India Highly Disturbing
ICC Note: Leaders in the Christian community has condemned comments made by BJP Prime Minister nominee Narendra Modi regarding his lack of knowledge on incidents of violence against the Christian community in India. During a television interview, Modi was asked how he would protect churches from attack should he become Prime Minister. Modi responded by saying he "had never heard of any such incidents taking place." Violence against India's Christian minority has made international headlines on multiple occasions. In 2008, anti-Christian mobs swept across India's northeastern state of Orissa (now Odisha) leaving over 50 Christians murdered, 300 churches and 5,600 Christians homes destroyed and over 54,000 people displaced. In 2002, 22 churches were attacked and burned down in the state Modi was the leader of. To say that he has never heard of incidents of churches being attacked in India is highly disturbing.

Nearly 300 Complaints of Religious Hate Crimes Reported in One Day in Sri Lanka
ICC Note: The Sri Lankan government announced on Monday the launch of a new police unit that is specifically tasked with investigating religious hate crimes on the island nation. Dramatic increases in attacks on churches and mosques by Buddhist radicals prompted the government to develop this new police unit. On the first day of operations, the new police unit had almost 300 complaints filed regarding religious hate crimes. Driven mainly by Buddhist nationalism, Christians and Muslims in Sri Lanka have found themselves the targets of mob attacks led by radical Buddhist monks. Will this new police unit change it situation for Christians in Sri Lanka?

The Best Vehicles for Preventing Passenger Injuries
The 10 best cars for preventing passenger injuries are not cars at all, but large, costly trucks and sport-utility vehicles like the Ford F-350 and Cadillac Escalade. The 10 worst cars for preventing passenger injuries fall into precisely the opposite category: small, lightweight cars that stress low prices and fuel economy. Dominating this list are subcompacts like Toyota’s Yaris, Fiat’s 500, Nissan’s Versa and Chevrolet’s Spark. The list also includes two of the best-selling midsize sedans.

Resistance Isn’t Futile
Democrats are eager to declare repealing Obamacare a lost cause, and equally eager to find any Republican who agrees with them. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, chair of the House Republican conference, had a moment of fame when she was reported over the weekend to have said she’s given up hope on repealing the Affordable Care Act. She quickly explained that she remains committed to its repeal, as every Republican should be.

Cliven Bundy And The Real Racists
Granted, Bundy’s statements were artless at best. But “..the negro(s)…didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom..” is essentially the opposite of “..musing about whether slavery was so bad.” A fair argument could be made that Bundy was professing a very 21st century attitude in the language of his own mid-20th century upbringing. If he ought to update his lexicon, then someone ought to tell the United Negro College Fund, among others.

High-Protein Breakfasts Help Maintain Glucose and Insulin Control
Eating breakfast is a valuable strategy to control appetite and regulate food intake. Your choice of foods can either increase or decrease your appetite throughout the day. Researchers have found that when women consume high-protein breakfasts, they maintain better glucose and insulin control than they did with lower-protein or no-protein meals.

Mother's diet affects the 'silencing' of her child's genes
A unique 'experiment of nature' that took place in The Gambia has now revealed that a mother's diet before she conceives has a permanent effect on her offspring's genetics. This is the first time the effect has been seen in humans, and is regarded as a major contribution to the field of 'epigenetics.'

Depression detectable in the blood: Platelet serotonin transporter function
The possibility of using a blood test to detect depression has been demonstrated by researchers. While blood tests for mental illnesses have until recently been regarded as impossible, a recent study clearly indicates that, in principle, depression can in fact be diagnosed in this way and this could become reality in the not too distant future.

When harm done can never be balanced: Vicarious revenge and the death of Osama bin Laden
Friday will mark the third anniversary of Osama bin Laden's assassination, a day when President Barack Obama famously stated 'Justice has been done.' But has it? A new study has questioned whether this instance of vicarious revenge led to feelings of satisfaction and reestablished justice within the American public, including whether bin Laden's assassination ignited craving for more revenge.

Benghazi scandal tied to White House

White House opens door to tolls on interstate highways, removing long-standing prohibition
Though some older segments of the network — notably the Pennsylvania and New Jersey turnpikes and Interstate 95 in Maryland and Interstate 495 in Virginia — are toll roads, most of the 46,876-mile system has been toll-free.

White House e-mail reinforces Benghazi talking points
New White House e-mails made public Tuesday by conservative Judicial Watch further support that the Obama team wanted then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to stress that a video disparaging the Prophet Muhammad was the catalyst for a series of anti-American protests across the Islamic world, including the deadly attacks on the Benghazi mission in September 2012.
