Why Your Spouse May Be ‘Hangry’ for a Fight
It may be that domestic arguments are an unavoidable part of matrimony. For some couples, however, the answer lies not with a marriage counselor, but with a visit to the kitchen. Hunger could be the sinister culprit behind your argument, according to a new study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

GOP pushes funding cuts for social science work
If Republicans have their way, a Harvard University anthropologist would not be using tax dollars to study the impact of China’s one-child policy. A Massachusetts Institute of Technology political scientist would not have the money to research how Medicare changes might shape seniors’ political attitudes. And a Brown University archeologist would not be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars examining textiles from the Viking Age.

What is a Blood Moon?
The first Blood Moon eclipse in a series of four is coming up on the night of April 14-15, 2014. We in astronomy had not heard the term Blood Moon used in quite this way before this year, but now the term is becoming widespread in the media. The origin of the term is religious, at least according to Christian pastor John Hagee, who wrote a 2013 book about Blood Moons.

Forum Excavations Reveal Rome’s Advanced Age
Rome celebrates its official “birthday” on April 21, the date on which (according to ancient Roman legend) brothers Romulus and Remus founded the city in 753 B.C. While its official age is pretty advanced—2,767 years, to be exact--Rome may be even older than that, according to new evidence found during excavations inside the Roman Forum.

Spiritual Leaders Call for Peace in Slipping CAR
ICC Note: As the situation in the Central African Republic further deteriorates toward ethnic cleansing and genocide, some in the country are carrying out positive, peace-building efforts to bring the nation back from the brink. On a diplomatic level, Christian and Muslim spiritual leaders have set aside their differences to call for an end to the violenece and to advocate a return to the peaceful and religiously tolerant Central Africa Republic they remembering loving in what seem now distant childhood memories.

Beaten and Detained in Defense of Religious Freedom
ICC Note: Legal persecution of Christians and their defense lawyers continues to be a primary issue for the growing body of believers in the world's most populous country. As the faithful continue to see their churches shut down and their members detained, increasingly so those that come to their defense run the risk of detention in so-called "black jails." ICC and the international community continue to call on China to right past wrongs and to respect every individual's right to worship freely.

Christians Killed in Egypt Reflect Growing Hatred in Segments of Society
ICC Note: When a Christian teacher confronted a Muslim student , the situation ended up with the teacher shot to death by a brother of the student. This is just the latest in many events that show the deepening of the rift between some segments of Egyptian society. Egypt’s Christians have repeatedly been targeted by Islamists who view them as largely to blame for their political and social loses since protests in the summer of 2013.

Global War on Christianity Is Violent And Real
ICC Note: Was the killing of a Dutch priest in Homs, Syria just an isolated incident? The reality is that his death, while just one of nearly 150,000 in the past three years in Syria, is also just one of many such incidents that are driven because of ones identification as a Christian. From a Coptic girl in Egypt, to a Dutch priest in Syria, and many, many more, there is ample evidence, John L. Allen writes, to support the idea of a war on Christianity.

Christians in India Face Tough Choice in National Elections
ICC Note: With India's national elections in full swing, many Christians are faced with a tough choice on who to give their support. Many churches across the country are calling on their members to vote for a secular government that will respect religious freedom and the rights of minority groups. Many Christians fear the rise of the BJP, a party poised to take over the majority in the government. BJP continues to come from a base of Hindu nationalism. In states where BJP already is in the majority, attacks against Christians are frequent. Many Christians fear that if the BJP takes over the nation, India will become a tougher place for Christians to exist.

Appeal Hearing for Asia Bibi in Pakistan Delayed for a Third Time
The appeal hearing for the blasphemy charge against Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi was delayed for a third time today. After two delays in March, the Lahore High Court had set the date of the appeal for April 14. After briefly holding the hearing, the judges postponed the case again to a later date. The judges hearing the appeal are both thought to be under extreme pressure from hard-liner groups who are demanding the court confirm the death sentence passed on Asia Bibi for blasphemy in 2010. Please pray that justice will be done in this case.

Dwarf Planet Discovery Could Help Show Life's Spread Through Solar System
On March 26, researchers announced the discovery of 2012 VP133, an estimated 280-mile wide (450-kilometer) object that lies just beyond the Kuiper Belt of icy objects that swarm outside of Neptune's orbit. The new object is nicknamed "Biden" after the vice-president of the United States, because both Joe Biden and 2012 VP133 are "VPs." It is one of only two dwarf planets discovered beyond the Kuiper Belt, with Sedna (a decade ago) being the other one.
