How Jerry Brown Hoodwinks Reporters
An accounting method known as “cash-based budgeting” recognizes expenses only when cash changes hands and treats any cash received, even borrowed cash, as revenue. Businesses aren't permitted to use cash-based budgeting. Instead, they must accrue expenses whether paid or not.

Huckabee: Americans in Line for TSA Less Free than North Koreans
Perhaps demonstrating how little he actually has to say to more Libertarian would be GOP 2016 voters, Fox host and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee over-stepped in reaching out to them with a reference to the United States as North Korea and the comment was quickly tossed back in his face thanks to social media.

I-1329: Amend the First Amendment?
A group of corporations is raising money for a political campaign to get corporate money out of political campaigns. The national group is called Move to Amend, and its Washington state arm is running an initiative that would call on Congress to rewrite the First Amendment. While I-1329 would do nothing on its own, it’s always worth taking note when a not-insignificant number of people come together in hopes of rewriting parts of the Constitution. In the case of Move to Amend, the effort is notable both for its hypocrisy and its ignorance.

Why the Government Shouldn't be an ATM
Our federal government is very good at moving money from place to place. In fact, some 70 percent of federal government spending consists of simply shipping money from one place to another — after taking a cut off the top. “In effect the government has become primarily a massive money-transfer machine,” notes John Merline at Investor’s Business Daily, “taking $2.6 trillion from some and handing it back out to others.”

Obama Should Give the Military the Resources It Needs
Before 9/11, the armed forces were already too small to cover all of America’s vital interests. And the planet today is a much more dangerous place than it was a decade ago.

Defense Lawyers Released from Chinese “Black Jail”
China Aid has come forward on the behalf of four defense lawyers jailed for attempting to defend innocent worshippers detained and tortured for the expression of their faith. The recently-released lawyers issued a joint statement condemning Chinese officials' continued breach of human rights and religious freedom. Legal persecution of Christians continues to be a primary issue for the growing body of believers in the world's most populous country. As the faithful continue to see their churches shut down and their members illegally detained in so-called "black jails," organizations such as ICC and China Aid continue to call on China to right past wrongs and to respect every individual's right to worship freely.

Appeal Hearing for Asia Bibi Set for April 14th
The appeal hearing for Asia Bibi has been set for Monday, April 14. Asia is a Christian women who was sentenced to death for allegedly committing blasphemy against Islam in Pakistan. Many believe that Asia will be released on appeal, but there are still some who fear Pakistan will carry through its death sentence. Please remember to pray for Asia and her appeal.

Christians in Pakistan Fear Blasphemy Charges Against Asia Bibi Will Be Upheld
Christian organizations close to the Asia Bibi blasphemy appeal fear that the Lahore High Court may uphold the death sentence Asia received following a dispute with Muslims in 2009. The case against Asia is typical of blasphemy cases brought against Christians in Pakistan who are often targeted by the law for abuse or score settling. Please take time to pray for Asia and other Christians currently standing accused of blasphemy.

Lebanon Cardinal: Christians Not Persecuted Minority, But In Middle East Fabric
ICC Note: Addressing the United Nations, Lebanese Cardinal Rai spoke about the realities confronting Christians in the Middle East. Rather than Christians being treated as a persecuted minority, a group that is somehow alien to the area, he pressed that Christians must be seen as a part of the Middle East fabric. They have suffered alongside of many others in the current hostilities, though often they have been targeted simply because of their religious identity. Yet, the Christian community still has a crucial role to play in the region.

Hereditary trauma: Inheritance of traumas and how they may be mediated
Extreme and traumatic events can change a person -- and often, years later, even affect their children. Researchers have now unmasked a piece in the puzzle of how the inheritance of traumas may be mediated. The phenomenon has long been known in psychology: traumatic experiences can induce behavioural disorders that are passed down from one generation to the next. It is only recently that scientists have begun to understand the physiological processes underlying hereditary trauma.

Finding the switch: Researchers create roadmap for gene expression
In a new study, researchers have taken the first steps toward creating a roadmap that may help scientists narrow down the genetic cause of numerous diseases. Their work also sheds new light on how heredity and environment can affect gene expression. Pinpointing the genetic causes of common diseases is not easy, as multiple genes may be involved with a disease. Moreover, disease-causing variants in DNA often do not act directly, but by activating nearby genes.
