The Longacre family arrived in Chester County and Delaware County, Pennsylvania from Sweden in 1643 on the "Kalmer Nyckel". The most notable Longacre is James Barton Longacre, an engraver with the Philadelphia Mint. It was his design that was used on the Indian Head Penny. Some of the Longacres moved to South Jersey while others moved to Frederick County, Va. and Johnson County, MO. There is another Longacre family who also settled in Chester County, Pa. They were from Switzerland and their ancestors start with Daniel and Ulrich Longacre. The Swedish Longacres are no way connected to Daniel and Ulrich Longacre.
