Don’t Be Fooled by North Carolina, There Is No Repeal of The Anti-Trans HB2, Only More Discrimination.
Let us be clear – this is no compromise. This is no repeal. This is HB2.0 and is perhaps more insidious in its targeting of LGBTQ – and particularly of trans and gender non-conforming – people.

Even the 'Los Angeles Times’ Thinks CA Charging Pro-Lifers Is Misguided
It's not just conservatives questioning why pro-life activists from the Center for Medical Progress are being charged. In this crazy world we live in, even a broken clock can be right from time to time. For this installment, behold a Thursday Los Angeles Times editorial entitled “Felony charges are a disturbing overreach for the duo behind the Planned Parenthood sting videos” that came to the defense of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) after California pressed 15 felony charges against two of the pro-life group's members.

Seattle Forced Union Dues Scheme Faces Legal Challenge
Union membership is at its lowest point in United States history. See how unions have become creative in targeting ridesharing drivers to force into paying dues. Uber and Lyft drivers aren't clamoring for a union, but union-friendly elected officials passed suspect laws to ease organizing and forced union dues payments.

End the Madness by Letting States Legalize Sports Betting
Gambling regulation has historically been a state matter. As a form of commerce conducted entirely within state borders, Congress generally leaves it up to the states to decide how it ought to be regulated. However, in the 1990s more than a dozen states contemplated legalizing sports wagering, which provoked concern, largely among the major national sports leagues, that more gambling would lead to corruption and an erosion of public trust in sports.

European right shows divisions on EU values after Brexit
A day after the UK notified the EU of its intention to leave, leaders of the European centre-right have called for EU unity, but with a sometimes very different view on which values the EU should defend. At their congress in Malta on Thursday (30 March), leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) insisted that the EU was facing an internal challenge from anti-EU forces, in addition to external challenges such as migration, terrorism and protectionism.

Remembering David Rockefeller, the Economist
Recently, David Rockefeller, grandson of John D. Rockefeller, died at the age of 101. He was known for many things. In addition to being a billionaire philanthropist, Rockefeller had a mind for economics. Perhaps the least known of his accomplishments was his dissertation for which he was awarded a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1940. This dissertation was published by the University of Chicago Press as a book in 1941, titled Unused Resources and Economic Waste.

Why Is Trump Waging War on the Freedom Caucus?
There is the obvious fact that the Freedom Caucus was the reason the GOP’s so-called replacement for Obamacare went down to defeat. They fought it for a solid reason: it would not have reduced premiums or deductibles, and it would not have increased access to a greater degree of choice in the health-insurance market. These people knew this. How? Because there was not one word of that bill that enabled the health care industry to become more competitive. Competition is the standard by which reform must be judged. The core problem of Obamacare (among many) was that it froze the market in an artificial form and insulated it from competitive forces. At minimum, any reform must unfreeze the market.

Have You Been Using the Term Liberal Incorrectly?
Liberalism, from the Latin liber, meaning free, referred originally to the philosophy of freedom. “Liberal” was once an honorable word used to describe those who put liberty first. So, liberalism means a return in spirit to the dawn of 1776, to " the obvious and simple system of natural liberty ." True liberalism holds the oldest and best traditions of American freedom.

THE EVOLVING AMERICAN CONSTITUTION: CHANGE WITHOUT AMENDMENT
Might the United States be headed for significant constitutional change without formal amendment of the document we know as the Constitution? There is a larger, unwritten, American constitution whose principles are not easily captured in a single document but are based on a general respect for the rule of law. Will our changing interpretation of it lead to a weaker Presidency and a stronger Congress?

Putin Using Thug Tactics to Silence Anti-Corruption Protesters and Political Enemies
Over 1,000 protesters in Russia were arrested for peacefully protesting against government corruption. Unlike in the United States, where the right to protest is constitutionally enshrined and whistleblowers are legislatively protected, in Russia, those who have the courage to stand up to corrupt leaders place their freedom as well as their lives on the line.

In Ukraine, Russia Weaponizes Fake News to Fight a Real War
Moscow started its campaigns in Crimea and eastern Ukraine particularly with the subtle manipulation of information. Tanks, artillery, and hundreds of innocent victims followed later. “Fake news is a major tool in Kremlin's propaganda to deceive its enemies,” a Ukrainian journalist and army combat veteran says.

7 Facts Democrats Should Consider Before They Oppose Neil Gorsuch
If Democrats oppose Neil Gorsuch, they’ll oppose anyone. In rejecting an exceptionally qualified Supreme Court nominee, the Democrats will tarnish their credibility. As Democrats prepare to attempt a historically unprecedented filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch, it’s important to be able to separate fact from fiction as debunked talking points are repeated by people opposing the nominee.

Why Congress Is Right to Reject FCC’s Double Standard for Broadband Providers
The FCC's rules set up a double-standard for Internet service providers, tilting the playing field toward other Internet firms like Google and Amazon. The congressional action has led many to conclude that the sky is falling in the online privacy world, naturally causing many consumers to worry about protecting their online information. But in reality, little will have changed if the disapproval is signed by the president and these flawed rules are rescinded.

Why New York’s ‘Buy American’ Bill Will Only Hurt New Yorkers
Following New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s lead, the Legislature is proposing stricter domestic content policies by attaching the New York State “Buy American” Act to the state budget.

Freedom Caucus Is an Ally, Not an Enemy in Draining the Swamp
The recent fight over health care proves the House Freedom Caucus knows what it will take to drain the swamp. President Donald Trump’s tweet that it’s the House Freedom Caucus that “we must fight” shows there may be a little confusion about what “draining the swamp” means or, at the very least, what it looks like.

Globalization is slashing inequality – here’s how
The United Nations has just released a new report on international development, titled “Development for Everyone”. Water Protectors Fight Atlantic Coast Pipeline
Is the Atlantic Coast Pipeline another DAPL in the making? Given the way the project’s route was moved from a wealthier, whiter area to a poor part of the state that has high percentages of indigenous and African American residents, it seems to be. That was on the minds of people who walked along the 200 miles of the proposed route across North Carolina. It brought together climate activists from the western part of the state with low-income white, African-American and Native farmers and other residents of the eastern flatlands.

The Realities of Lateral Violence Within Indian Country

On March 15 Watson issued an injunction barring enforcement of Trump’s second executive order banning travel from seven predominantly Muslim nations.

Forget Foreign Aid — Adopt Free Trade Instead
In his recent Guardian article, David Cameron, the former UK prime minister and newly appointed Chair of the Commission on State Fragility, Growth and Development, argued that it is right for the United Kingdom to continue to give aid to developing and unstable countries. Mr. Cameron argued that it is the responsibility of the UK government to give aid supporting developing countries as not only is it the moral thing to do, but it is also in the interests of the UK. Following on from Mr. Cameron's article, I would like to argue for a better way in which the UK can help less developed countries and also advance its own interests: free trade.
