   Taken from the Friday, November 7, 1952 edition of the Coulee City - Hartline News Standard.
   Mrs. Ella Connor bean work this week as editor, advertising salesman and  circulation manager of the News-Standard, which will continue publication under the ownership of the Joe Pierce's.
   The Pierces leave about November 19 for their new home in San Diego. The News-Standard has been offered for sale for the last six weeks.  A number of prospective purchasers looked at the paper, but so far none have bought it. So the Pierces were forced with the prospect of discontinuing the newspaper or finding some means of continuing publication.  So many people have expressed the hope that the paper could go on. If the revenue from subscriptions and advertising remain at the same level, it will be financially possible to continue printing the News-Standard. Mrs. Conor wil make her office at the Northern Pacific Depot.
   Scheduled to arrive at Long Beach, California, November 2 aboard the anti-aircraft cruiser USS Juneau from the Korean combat zone was David M. Brown, interior communications electrician third class, USN. He is the son of locals, Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Brown. The Juneau was the first American warship to take part in the Korean action, reporting for duty on June 27, 1950 and supporting UN ground troops defending South Korea.
   Like the nation, Coulee City favored General Dwight D. Eisenhower for President at the polls, giving him a total of 187 votes as opposed to 178 for Governor Adlai Stevenson.  Hartline favored Stevenson with a vote of 139 to 112 and the precincts of Pierpoint, Mod and Leahy went for Stevenson, while St Andrews and Mansfield chose the Republican candidate.  Judge T. E. Austin won 25 votes for local justice of the peace. Receiving one vote each for the above office were Cecil Adkins, Curt Clark and Don Nutt.
   In Spokane for dinner and to attend the stage show, South Pacific were Messrs. and Mesdames Lloyd Mitchell; A. C. Pierpoint; Don Wilson; Curt Clark; Don Cheesman; Joe Pierce; Lloyd Lynard; Arnie Gamer; Paul Neihart; Jim Jess and James Edgemon of Coulee City, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Wiburn, Spokane; Bill Austin and Mrs. Mary Jack Abrams, Spokane.
   Mrs. Chester Evans and son, Richard, and Mrs. Wilbur Ford and son, Steven, went to Pullman last Friday to bring Bob Evans and Fraser Draper, students at WSC, home for the weekend.  During the week Bob celebrated his 18th birthday by registering with Selective Service.
   Mr. and Mrs. Mike Beola and Riley Peters were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Leander Sunday.
   Mr. and Mrs. Pat Gilbert and children, Arlene and Larry, and a friend, Larry Bunker, Spokane were in Coulee City over the weekend visiting Mr. Gilbert's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gilbert and Mrs. Gilbert's mother, Mrs. Christena Olesen.

ST. ANDREWS NEWS by Mary Lou Miller & Esther Jolly
   Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Scheibner and girls visited at the Chris Ottmar home Sunday evening.
   Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Bechtol and family were Sunday dinner guests of the Clyde Miller's.
   The Claude Millers, Clyde Millers and Clarence Adams, Jr. attended South Pacific in Spokane Thursday.
   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller and children were in Ephrata and Soap Lake Friday. They visited Ed Nansen in the Ephrata Hospital.
   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller and children were Sunday guests of her folks in Almira.  They also attended a silver wedding reception for Mr. and Mrs. August Evers at the Al Sample home.
   David Peterson has returned home from a plane trip to Portland.
   Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jager and two boys of Junction City, Oregon spent from Thursday until Monday visiting in the Harold Jensen Home.
   The Edwin Mickelsen family are moving to their home in Coulee City this wee.
   Willis Jolly spent Sunday at the Elmer Vaughn home.
   Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Miller and boys were accompanied to the coast by Mr. and Mrs. Art Driessche. The Driessches visited a brother and the Millers attended a Golden Anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. John Curtis, aunt and uncle of Mrs. Miller.
   Mr. and Mrs. David Peterson spent the weekend recently in Spokane and Colville Valley.  October 27 Mr. and Mrs. Peterson and family were guests of the David Petersons.
   Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Tanneberg spent October 25 and 26 in Spokane. The children stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Tanneberg.

   Mrs. Maurice Knowles, Coulee City, taught for Miss Bennett this week.
   Mrs. Frank Chaffee, Spokane, is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Behne and boys.
   Mrs. Florence Bishop and Ervin Thomas were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hughes, Wilbur.
   Howard Bochemuehl was elk hunting at Dayton.
   Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Brown and Marjie moved to Coulee City last weekend.
   Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Poe were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Duffy, Waterville.
   Ralph Sieg was home from Seattle Pacific College last weekend.
   Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Haynes and boys visited the George Sanfords at Republic.
   Nine members of the Bridge Club met with Mrs. Roy Rose recently. Mrs. Phil Walesby won high; Bert Osborne, low.
   Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kelley Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kelley and Bob; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Wright, Coulee Dam and Mr. and Mrs.Gene Kelley and children.
   Those attending the stage show South Pacific in Spokane were Mr. and Mrs P. C. Walesby, who were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alboucq, and Mr. and Mrs. E. I. Evans, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Heathman.

   Jim Evans and Jennifer Gregorichare here spending a few days with Harold, Shyla and Amy Evans.
   Dean McLean returned to Spokane Community College Sunday after spending his Christmas vacation visiting his parents, Bill and Bev McLean and Deanna.
   Betty Ressler returned Sunday from a 2-week holiday trip to California where she spent time visiting friends and her daughter, Kitty Ressler, Wash. D. C., who flew out to be with her.  The pair also spent time with Kitty's fiance, Leo Johnson who is stationed with the Navy in California. The three drove to Issaquah, WA where they spent New Years weekend with Mike and Carol Ressler
and daughters. Resslers other family guests were Rick and Collie Tigges.  Rick drove Betty home Sunday.
   Attending the Assembly of God youth all-night New Years Eve party in Wenatchee were Dean ad Dan Jenkin; Scott and Angie Isaak and two cousins; Scott Hooper; Seio Sakuma; Donarae and Lynette Martin; Brian and Brenda Isaak; Cherie Zwiers; Julie Tanneberg and guests, Mary Johanson, Alberta Brown and Rod Little. The group spent the night and early morning roller skating and bowling, ate breakfast and returned home about 9 am Saturday. The group was chaperoned by Associate Pastor Wes Lindseth.
   Leaving Sunday for Northwest College, Kirkland, was Donarae Martin, Dean and Dan Jenkin.

   Visitors of Gene and Shirley Kelley last week were Mr. and Mrs. Duane Mickelsen, Kris and Mark, Pullman.
   Bob and Anita Sieg and Rogr and Janet Dormaier were New Years Eve guests of Gary and Sue Sieg.
   Saturday Bob and Anita Sieg were with her parents at Creston.
   On New Years Eve, Carl Combes, Lynn Schwurchow, Dean and Tami Spurbeck, Kevin Young, David and Mike Holmquist attended a '747' youth rally in Moses Lake, chaperoned by Youth Pastor Rick Bye. The gathering was held at the Moses Lake Assembly of God and began at 7:47 pm New Years Eve. At 3:34 am (7 hrs and 47 minutes later) everyone retired. Breakfast was served at 7:47 am New Years Day. Following breakfast the group returned to Hartline.
   Charles and Marian Munch left Wednesday, December 29 visiting relatives in Everett, Seattle and Lynwood. Their son Dan returned home with them Thursday night.
   Mark Munch visited his brother Dan in Soap Lake Saturday and returned to Seattle Sunday with Dan Jenkin, Coulee City.
   Charles and Marian Munch attended Watchnight services New Years Eve at Coulee City Assembly of God.
   Keith ad Ruth Behne were in Spokane New Years Day to attend the Ice Capades.
   The Tim Behne family were New Years Eve dinner guests of Keith and Ruth Behne.
   Mary and Russel Clines Sunday dinner guests were Elizabeth Litt and Molly Coley. Following the meal they played cards with more guests Andy and Clara Litt.
   Russ, and friend Cascey, Evelynn, Roberta and Doug Dingman were all home for the holidays. Along with their parents, Bob and Pauline Dingman, the group spent a lot of time skiing. New Years Day they were all at the Gary Sieg home.
   Bob and Jeanette Kelley attended the New Years Party at Dry Falls Cafe and Lounge.
   Thursday Martha Kelley took Jenny Wulff, her niece, back to Spokane. Later Pat and Mary Kelley went to Spokane and brought grandson, Derrick Wulff, home with them.
   Thursday a van load of children from the Hartline Assembly of God visited the Ephrata Nursing Home where they presented a holiday program.
   Wednesday Irene and Raymond Retter, Mr. and Charles Pruett; Roger and Janet Dormaier; Dave and Kathy Dormaier; Dwayne Dormaier were all at Earl and Donna Dormaiers to view Daryl's slides of his Orient tour.
   Thursday guests of Donna Dormaier were Linda Davies and a friend.
   New Years Day, Tim and Cindy Bruce and children, and Rick Bye were dinner guests of the Earl Dormaiers.
   Nancy and Dick Holmquist were guests of the BillMontgomery's New Years Eve.
