Here's a list of some of the cottages/Apartments that have existed at Soap Lake over the years: Black Locust Paradise - Beach View Cottages - Turner Cottages - Hampen Cottages - Caton Cabins - Adan Ken Apartments - Lillie Apartments - Rost Apartments - Lakeside Apartments - Houghton Cottages - Walter Apartments and Shady Nook Cottages. Does anyone have photos of these? Or, know where they were or are today? Keep in mind that Soap Lake was a place with a lot of cottages and cabins as well as tents - mingled in with the high quality hotels. Many of these cabins and cottages still exist today. A few have been remodeled or united with a neighboring cottage or cabin to create a larger residence. This story remains largely untold.

This is "Sparkle". She was badly burnt in the wildfire on Sunday north of Leahy Jct. As you can see by her ear tag which is melted and hanging down about 6 inches her hide is very burnt pretty much entirely under her belly, her brisket, between her back legs and obviously her ears and face. I was thinking of having her put down today, after seeing her with her two friends yesterday who didn't mak
e it. I first decided to make a phone call to a local veterinarian who has had lots of experience with wildfires and burnt cattle. He said that cattle can look pretty rough after a fire but in all actuality they are very HARDY!! He said if they will walk to water and eat then you should give them some time to heal. If they go downhill you will know it and make other decisions then.

This is where the fire started Sunday. Lightening struck one of these telephone poles and snapped it off. |
This poor heifer's whole under side has been burnt. She can walk and has gotten herself up to some water and although she looks rough, she is standing so that is a good sign. |
The cow from the previous pic is standing in the right bottom corner on the brown grass. The devastation from the fire goes on for miles and miles along the Columbia River. |

You can see how burnt her hide is under her belly and brisket as well as her face. |
So tonight Sparkle was delivered dinner out in the pasture where she has been hanging out next to a nice green spring and where she can also get to water. Well guess who had an appetite?? You have no idea how wonderful it is to see an animal in her condition with an appetite. This heifer has a sparkle of hope in her where the cow and calf she was with unfortunately didn't make it. With that said we will call this beautiful lady..."Sparkle" and ask for everyone to say a little prayer of hope for her. Thanks!
