A fringe theory suggests the coronavirus could have leaked from a lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, but there's no evidence of this. One US researcher who has worked with scientists at that Wuhan lab explained to Business Insider why an accidental lab leak is extremely unlikely. The high-security lab says it has no record of the novel coronavirus' genome, and follows strict safety measures. It's far more likely that the virus spilled over naturally from bats, jumping to humans via an intermediary animal host.
