Pruitt Was Told to Resign in Call From White House, Sources Say
Scott Pruitt resigned as EPA chief Thursday after White House Chief of Staff John Kelly delivered a message from the president that it was time for the scandal-plagued administrator to leave, according to two people familiar with the situation. Pruitt didn’t want to leave his post and was described as being devastated that he had to resign, said the people, who asked not to be named discussing a personnel matter.

Guidance on How to Curtail Time Federal Employees Spend Performing Union Business
In May, President Trump issued an executive order that instructed federal agencies to limit the amount of time federal employees spend performing union business instead of public duties. There is more that can be done. This union subsidy is called “official time.” Its true cost is unknown because of poor recordkeeping, but an estimate by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) found official time cost $175 million with federal employees spending 3.6 million hours conducting union activities. If the administration wants to achieve its stated goal to use tax dollars as effectively as possible, tackling official time should be high on its to-do list.

"Taxes Are the Price We Pay to Live in a Civilized Society" – or Are They?
A common sentiment among proponents of government and centralized authority is that “taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilized society.” In reality, however, the state’s hunger for tax revenue and control directly undermines well-intentioned humans’ efforts to be civil to each other.

In Belgium, Is Communism Making a Comeback?
Belgium's Communist party is gaining support in the polls despite being ideologically motivated by some of the worst criminals of the 20th century.

The Supreme Court Has Destroyed the Principle of the "Consent of the Governed"
Any power exercised by the federal government that is not among those delegated in the Constitution is power exercised without the consent of the governed.

Socialism is Not Built on Compassion. It's Built on Dehumanizing Others
How is it possible to insist that the next socialist regime will be different? When socialism inevitability fails, the ruling elites have to shift the attention of the population to a scapegoat. Someone or some group other than the political leadership needs to be blamed.

THE REAL MODERN ANTI-SEMITISM
In a June 18 dispatch, Eric Fournier, the French ambassador to Hungary, reported that the alleged anti-Semitism of Hungarian President Viktor Orban was “a fantasy of the foreign press.” He added that the allegation diverted attention from the “real modern anti-Semitism,” whose source is “Muslims in France and Germany.” The private memorandum was leaked by the left-wing website Mediapart and reported widely in the French press. Hungary’s “management of illegal immigration” might be a model for France, Fournier added.

When Patriotism Loses Its Universality
When nationalism-sold-as-patriotism becomes the primary rationale for any party in power, the toxic process of polarization and partisanship gets worse.

Pruitt torn to pieces over his resignation from the EPA
Former Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt is an emotional wreck after being jettisoned by President Trump over a series of bizarre ethics scandals, according to a report. Despite the assertions of unwavering devotion to the President, Bloomberg News reported that Trump had grown weary of the negative press surrounding the cabinet member. The final straw was an investigation into allegations Pruitt’s public schedule were doctored to keep some of his meetings secret, a possible criminal violation of the Federal Records Act, the report said. More allegations were expected by the White House, according to the news service.

Marc A. Thiessen: The left’s contempt may well reelect Trump
Axios reports that Democrats are targeting the “20% of Trump’s voters [who] told exit pollsters they didn’t like him” hoping these reluctant Trump voters will help power a “blue wave” in the 2018 midterms and defeat President Trump in 2020. One problem with that theory: The left’s nonstop, over-the-top attacks on Trump are not peeling those voters away from him; they are pushing them further into the president’s camp.

Karen Tumulty: ‘Abolish ICE’ is a trap for Democrats
“Abolish ICE” has become the new rallying cry of the left, which is trying to turn the fury Americans are feeling about the horrors at the Mexican border on the little-understood agency known as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But replace it with what? Democrats don’t have a clear answer for that, which is why they are heading into dangerous political territory. Demonizing a government agency is an old, tired strategy – one that rarely if ever has worked.

No, President Trump Is Not Purging The Military Of Immigrants
On the immigrant enlistees washing out, the Associated Press got it wrong. The Department of Defense is strongly disputing a recent AP article that suggests the United States Army has begun purging its ranks of non-U.S. citizens as the Trump administration ramps up efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.

AP Exclusive: Washington psychiatric hospital called 'hell'
Behind tall brick walls and secure windows, hundreds of patients at Washington state's largest psychiatric hospital live in conditions that fail U.S. health and safety standards, while overworked nurses and psychiatrists say they are navigating a system that punishes employees who speak out despite critical staffing shortages.
