B.C. Anglicans among those displaced by wildfires
As wildfires rage across British Columbia’s Central Interior, Anglican leaders in the region are doing what they can to support their communities, says Bishop Barbara Andrews of the Central Interior-based Territory of the People. After weeks of hot, dry weather, the CBC reports that a lightning storm July 7 sparked the fires that have spread across the Central Interior, forcing thousands to leave their homes and causing the province to declare a state of emergency. Of the 14,000 people who have been evacuated so far, Andrews estimates roughly 1,000 are Anglicans.

Christian Refugees Now Outnumber Muslims 2 to 1 Under Trump
According to a new study out from Pew Research, the number of Christian refugees admitted by the United States in the first five months of the Trump administration vastly outnumbered those who self-identify as Muslims by nearly 2 to 1, marking a sharp reverse-course from the previous Obama administration, which admitted larger numbers of Muslims under the sanctuary program. "More Christian than Muslim refugees have been admitted to the United States in the first months of the Trump administration, reversing a trend that had seen Muslims outnumber Christians in the final fiscal year under President Barack Obama, a Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. State Department refugee data has found."

While the economy is slowly improving, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce is seeking to tackle a holdover Obama regulation that’s an impediment to business expansion, job creation, entrepreneurship, and workforce development. Joint employer standards are different all over the country, but all of them make it harder for business large and small to succeed. A Failed Hit on Rep. Mo Brooks
The Senate Leadership Fund is backing incumbent Republican senator Luther Strange, who was appointed to his position when his predecessor, Jeff Sessions, became attorney general. Congressman Mo Brooks, one of the most conservative members of the House, is challenging Strange. The SLF just sent out a press release titled, “FACT CHECK: Mo Brooks Opposed Trump’s Border Wall, Now Claims to Support it.” Its spokesman Chris Pack adds, “Like the typical Washington politician that he is, Mo Brooks is trying to erase his record of stridently opposing Donald Trump by embracing the very border wall that he mocked just last year.” I’ve got no dog in this fight, but the SLF doesn’t deliver the goods here.
