Facebook tests tool to prevent catfishing
The social network is testing a new feature in India that could stop someone from stealing another person's identity. The tool gives users more say over who can download and share their profile pictures. While the concept of catfishing is a widespread issue in many countries, it is a particular issue in India. Users in India will soon be able to add a safety guard to profile pictures. If the setting is activated, others will not be able to download, share or send another person's profile picture via a Facebook message.

Why Are Houses So Darn Expensive?
In 2013, 1 out of every 10 American homes was valued at more than double the production costs. Demand for housing alone isn't driving up costs, because if it was we would expect high cost places to also have high levels of construction. So why is the cost of housing so high?

A wealthy Manhattan woman died after her clothes caught fire while cooking last week. Her tragic death was unusual, but there was a time when cooking was far more dangerous and time-consuming. Even today, more than 4 million people lacking modern stoves die prematurely each year from breathing in cooking fumes. Not only was cooking once unsafe, it left time for little else. As Professor Deirdre McCloskey once noted, “[in] 1900 a typical American household of the middle class would spend 44 hours [a week] in food preparation,” and most of that work fell to women. In other words, back in the days of churning one’s own butter and baking one’s own bread, food preparation took up the same hours as a full-time job. That estimate includes time spent on purchasing, cooking and serving food as well as dishwashing. Keep in mind that in addition to cooking, women were also often responsible for cleaning the home, laundry, mending clothes, and tending to children.

‘Harrowing Reading’
The Archbishop of Canterbury responds to An Abuse of Faith: The Independent Peter Ball Review: Abuse of Faith makes harrowing reading: the church colluded and concealed rather than seeking to help those who were brave enough to come forward. This is inexcusable and shocking behavior, and although Dame Moira notes that most of the events took place many years ago, and does not think that the church now would conduct itself in the ways described, we can never be complacent, we must learn lessons.

THE BIBLE AND ROB BELL
Whatever his personal religious opinions, Rob Bell is crafting a religious system that is only tangentially related to orthodox Christianity, and which increasingly appears to make Christian habits of thought and language purely optional.

Four Reasons Central Banks are Wrong to Fight Deflation
The word “deflation” can be defined in various ways. According to the most widely accepted definition today, deflation is a sustained decrease of the price level. The harmful character of deflation is a sacred dogmas of monetary policy. However, evidence substantiating these claims is either weak or nonexistent.

Our Lawless Central Bank
The economic arguments against central banks are numerous to say the least. For example, it is becoming increasing important — in our current age of "non-traditional" monetary policy — to take note of the fact that central banks, and especially the Federal Reserve, are essentially unrestrained by law. The Fed's modern method of policymaking is best described as "ad hoc." This is a big problem for entrepreneurs and most market actors.

Does the Fed Follow Its Own Rules?
Throughout the history of the central bank, different rules have been implemented to avoid giving discretion to the central bank. Some examples of these rules are the Palmer rule, the Bagehot rule, and the Friedman rule. The most modern and most popular central bank rule is the Taylor rule, which came about in the early 90s. The central bank is unlikely to follow rules like the Taylor Rule because they are fundamentally political organizations with their own agendas.

The European Court of Human Rights ordered on Tuesday that the Russian government must pay 49,100 euros ($54,800) to a group of gay activists, reports Interfax-Religion. The court ruled on the case of Nikolai Baev, Alexei Kiselev, and Nikolai Alekseev, proclaiming that Russia’s law against “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors,” violated the activists’ right to freedom of expression.

Turkey has again provoked the international community with a reading of the Koran in Agia Sophia that was broadcast on Turkish state television, reports Romfea. The new provocation came on Wednesday evening, when the head of the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez held a prayer and read the Koran in the ancient Christian church of Agia Sophia. According to Turkish law, the Presidency, or Diyanet, is “to execute the works concerning the beliefs, worship, and ethics of Islam, enlighten the public about their religion, and administer the sacred worshiping places.”

The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church has called for an extraordinary session to address the serious situation surrounding the nation’s educational system. The current Greek Cabinet of Ministers, headed by the atheist Alexis Tsipras, previously promised to coordinate with the Greek Orthodox Church on the matter of reforming education in the country, but this has not happened, and officials are making decisions that largely contradict the positions of the Greek Church.

When you reject evil, peace and quietness get inside you. Reject evil, say to yourself: ‘I don’t want to think evil. I want only peace, tranquility and good.’ Then you become God’s angel who shows goodness everywhere.

It is of the utmost importance to remember the terrible Second World War and how it began. Especially when watching television or reading the mainstream news we must always be aware of the fact that a country’s leaders in our times have to justify the invasion and exploitation of other nations to their basically humane citizenry, gradually forming a strong picture of “the enemy” in peoples’ minds. All too often, people learn about these propaganda efforts only after millions have died in ruthless wars. On this anniversary of Germany’s invasion of Soviet territory we present this paper by Professor Mikhail Ivanovich Frolov (November 2, 1924 – October 11, 2016), Doctor of History and Vice-President of the Academy of Military and Historical Sciences, Russian Federation

Christian: You Are Upset About the Wrong Things
Sociologist Tony Campolo has been known, when speaking to Christian audiences, to begin by saying something like this: "I have three things I’d like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don’t give a shit. What’s worse is that you’re more upset with the fact I just said “shit” than you are that 30,000 kids died last night." When citing this, I have had people prove his very point by responding something to the effect of, “Yeah, I get it, but I still wish he would make his point some other way…” Ummm, that is his point. His point, in my opinion, isn’t really about the children (although it is, obviously); his point is that we (Christians) get upset over the wrong things. Our moral sense of outrage is often misdirected.

Rand Paul is right: It’s far more important to to do healthcare properly than quickly
The GOP Senate health care plan was released on Thursday, and a few hours later, Sen. Rand Paul joined Republican Senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson in saying they could not vote for the bill in its current form. The reason? It keeps too much of what has failed with Obamacare.

Exclusive: Fake online stores reveal gamblers' shadow banking system
A network of dummy online stores offering household goods has been used as a front for internet gambling payments, a Reuters examination has found. The seven sites, operated out of Europe, purport to sell items including fabric, DVD cases, maps, gift wrap, mechanical tape, pin badges and flags. In fact, they are fake outlets, part of a multinational system to disguise payments for the $40 billion global online gambling industry, which is illegal in many countries and some U.S. states.

Warnings to the United States are being issued by the globalist leech in charge at the UN, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. On Tuesday, the open borders communist operative cautioned President Trump that we could be replaced. We should be so fortunate and ought to, in fact, work to help guarantee that happens. There must be plenty of countries around the world ready to take on the “developing nations” as national dependents, though they may have to “sweeten the deal” with a little slave labor or territory, something that isn’t presently required.
