The Russian Balance Sheet at Hangzhou
The recent G-20 meetings in Hangzhou, China provide a useful balance sheet for assessing Russia’s status in Europe. While Russian President Vladimir Putin showed that Russia is not as isolated as many in the West think it should be, Putin failed to convince France and Germany to pressure Ukraine to implement the Minsk II ceasefire accord.

WHY PRAY FOR THE ‘SAVED’? CHRISTIAN BURIAL SERVICES, THE UNBAPTIZED, AND SINNERS

HELICOPTER PASTORING
As helicopter parenting has been diagnosed by media and psychological experts alike in the last years, I’m noticing a spiritually dangerous predilection toward helicopter pastoring. It’s not particularly surprising that this would happen; micromanagement is an enduring cultural pastime, both in business and personal relationships.

How You Can Recognize the 5 Stages of Religious Persecution
Never forget: Those who suffer for proclaiming the faith, and for living it boldly, are of highest honor in the Kingdom of God. But firmly resisting or refusing to comply with immoral and unjust laws, whatever the consequences, is simply not in the mindset of most Catholics who have long been content (and even counseled) to get along with everyone, to be pleasant and nice, and to blend into the American experience. As you will see, persecutions do not come out of nowhere. They build in a culture over time until they boil over into often-horrific acts wherein those who inflict them actually feel justified in what they do. As we consider the descriptions of the five stages, it is hard to argue that we are not well into the fourth stage here in America and edging into the final stage.
Stage 1. Stereotype the targeted group
Stage 2. Vilify the targeted group for alleged crimes or misconduct
Stage 3. Marginalize the targeted group’s role in society
Stage 4. Criminalize the targeted group or its works
Stage 5. Persecute the targeted group outright

State supreme court is no closer to a solution in its McCleary case
The justices of the state supreme court held another public hearing today, with presentations and briefs provided by a series of the lawyers, in an effort to salvage their ruling in the nine-year-old McCleary school funding case. The justices are pressing elected lawmakers about future plans for funding the schools, but it is obvious the justices are no closer to finding a solution in the McCleary process than when they took over funding authority from the legislature in January 2012.
