The Danger of Choosing a Symbol to be President
People are arguing about what the United States got out of the deal that swapped five top-level terrorist leaders for one American soldier who was, at best, absent from his post in a war zone. Soldiers who served in the same unit with him call him a deserter. The key to this deal, however, is less likely to be what the United States got out of the deal than it is about what Barack Obama got out of the deal. If nothing else, it instantly got the veterans’ hospitals scandals off the front pages of newspapers and pushed these scandals aside on television news programs. It was a clear winner for President Obama. That may be all that matters to him.

Supreme Court Upholds Religious Freedom in Hobby Lobby Case

What These Americans Think of the Hobby Lobby Ruling
Today, in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that employers with religious objections cannot be forced to provide abortion-inducing drugs and devices to their employees under Obamacare. The Daily Signal went to the steps of the nation’s highest court to ask activists on both sides of the debate about the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby decision—one of the most anticipated of the court’s term.

This Standard Is One Reason the Price of Gas Will Increase
On June 26, the Congressional Budget Office released a study on the impacts of the Renewable Fuels Standard and found that, if unchanged, the RFS will increase gasoline prices by 13 to 26 cents per gallon and increase the price of diesel fuel by 30 to 51 cents per gallon by 2017. Part of the popular, bi-partisan and totally misguided Energy Independence and Security Act, the RFS promoted increased production of various forms of ethanol and biodiesel with a host of mandates and subsidies.

Ancient baby boom holds a lesson in over-population
Researchers have sketched out one of the greatest baby booms in North American history, a centuries-long 'growth blip' among southwestern Native Americans between 500 to 1300 A.D. It was a time when the early features of civilization -- including farming and food storage -- had matured to where birth rates likely 'exceeded the highest in the world today,' the researchers write. A crash followed, offering a warning sign to the modern world about the dangers of overpopulation.

All the world's oceans have plastic debris on their surface

In addition to the known accumulation of plastic waste in the North Pacific, there are similar accumulations in the central North Atlantic, the South Pacific, the South Atlantic and the Indian Ocean.
