Being parish priest was my most stressful job, says Justin Welby
Archbishop of Canterbury speaks of ‘insatiably demanding’ job in Church of England synod debate on clergy wellbeing.

First it was ties in parliament, now it is surplices at communion. Following Speaker John Bercow’s decision last month to relax the convention requiring male MPs to wear jackets and ties in parliament, the Church of England is to allow clergy to conduct services in civvies. ANGLICANS WITHOUT A CAUSE
I see little evidence on social media that Christians, let alone clergy, provide any greater wisdom and insight to the great causes.  One suspects that the world is more likely to sigh, See how these Christians detest one another, than to echo Tertullian’s famous boast.

The May release of a joint Episcopal-United Methodist proposal aims to clear the way, after nearly a century of exploratory talks, for full communion among more than 14 million Christians and sharing of clergy across the two denominations as soon as 2021. But observers say a cloud hangs over prospects for such a sweeping victory for Christian unity. The United Methodist Church is marching toward a day of reckoning and potential schism centered on sexuality issues in February 2019. That’s when a special General Conference will vote on a Way Forward proposal in the works for a church deeply divided on hot-button issues, including a ban on clergy in same-sex relationships.

Under the United Kingdom’s Gender Recognition Act 2004, people who undertake gender reassignment receive a new birth certificate and their legal documents change in line with their new status. Now the Church of England’s House of Bishops has been asked to look into a liturgical rite in the same spirit.
