When Fewer Men Farm, A Civilization Dies
At the time of the America’s founding, 95 percent of its population lived on farmland, and only 5 percent lived in urban areas. Fast forward to today, and these numbers have dramatically flip-flopped. Currently, a whopping 81% of people live in urban areas and only 19% live in rural areas. What is more, only about 1.6% of the American labor force is engaged in agriculture.

9 Literary Masterpieces the Catholic Church Banned

The Index Librorum Prohibitorum (modern English translation: List of Prohibited Books) was the official list of banned books created by censors of the Roman Catholic Church. First published in 1559 during the Sacred Congregation of the Roman Inquisition, the Index was updated annually until 1966, when it was abolished by Pope Paul VI. The list ostensibly was created to help steer believers away from heretical works, which in practice meant banning popular or influential works incongruous with Church doctrine. Unsurprisingly, “heretical” scientific works written by Kepler, Galileo, and Copernicus all made the list. More surprising is that many philosophical tracts penned by luminaries such as Locke, Hobbes, Kant, Descartes, Montesquieu, and Mill also made the list. Perhaps most surprising is the number of novels flagged by Church censors, including some seemingly benign literary classics. Take a look:
1. Les Miserables, Victor Hugo
2. The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas
3. Candide, Voltaire
4. Pamela: Or Virtue Rewarded, Samuel Richardson
5. The Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas
6. The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Victor Hugo
7. Madame Bovary, Flaubert
8. The Political History of the Devil, Daniel Defoe

9. A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy, Laurence Sterne

That is $25,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze, all paid for by the United States Olympic Committee. Prizes like these are treated as “income” and are thus taxable. The Olympians could be forced to pay as much as $9,900, $5,940, or $3,960, on gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.

Germany’s Secret Night Refugee Flights: Is Merkel Lying Again?
Is German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government surreptitiously flying massive numbers of Muslim “refugees” into German airports and military airbases on secret night flights? That is the charge in a sensational story by German writer Markus Mahler last week in the German publication Kopp Verlag. Spokesmen for the German government are denying the stories, stating that they are completely false. However, Chancellor Merkel’s credibility on this issue is almost nonexistent, as she has been caught repeatedly in lies, coverups, and deception on migration and refugee matters.
