New Call Issued to Protect Syria’s Christians as Peace Talks Begin
The World Evangelical Alliance has publicly called for world leaders to consider the Christian minority of Syria as peace talks begin this week in Geneva, Switzerland. Christians in Syria have been targeted in growing numbers by radical Islamic groups in the country fighting to overthrow the Assad government. Reports of Christians being killed for their faith have emerged while tens of thousands have been displaced. ICC is not only monitoring the deteriorating situation for Christians in Syria but is actively working to assist victims of the civil war.

New Bylaw in Indonesia Would Force Islamic Prayer and Mosque Visits
Indonesia's Home Affairs Minister is speaking out against a new bylaw that would force residents of Bengkulu Province in South Sumatra to pray five times daily and visit the mosque on Friday or face punishment. The Religious Affairs Ministry of the province claims this falls within their jurisdiction, while the federal government disagrees. In November, nineteen district government employees in a separate part of Indonesia were fired for failing to attend 5 a.m. prayers. Indonesia publicly claims to be one of the most tolerant nations in the world when it comes to religious diversity, but recent years have seen a spike in church closings and attacks on religious minorities by hard-line Islamic political groups.

Please pray for the protection of this church and the people taking shelter there.

China’s Facade of Religious Freedom
In this excellent article by Jinghon Cai, ChinaAid takes a look at the "smoke and mirrors" of China's policy towards religious freedom. It is highly possible that China now has more than 200 million Christians, though exact numbers are not available. The government of China also claims that it allows complete religious freedom for its citizens, while in reality Christians may only legally attend government controlled "Three-Self" churches. However the arrest back in November of the pastor and 23 church members of the Nanle County Christian Church, a "Three-Self" church, shows that even this "endorsed" organizations are not exempt from persecution.

Christians in India Appeal for Justice for Murdered Pastor
The Andhra Pradesh Federation of Churches has appealed to the National Human Rights Commission of India in an attempt to gain justice for Pastor B. Sanjeevulu who was murdered earlier this month by Hindu extremists. On January 11, a group of men stabbed and beat the pastor outside of his house. Unfortunately, the pastor died in the hospital two days later. Now local Christians are demanding justice and for better protection of Christians. Please pray for these people.

Beginning of the Christian Exodus from Pakistan?
Pakistan continues to be ranked among the most religiously hostile nations in the world. Christians living in Pakistan, who only make up a small percentage of the Muslims majority population, face extreme forms of persecution on a daily basis. Pakistan's controversial blasphemy laws continue to be wielded as a tool by extremists seeking to abuse/punish Christians. False accusations against Christians in not uncommon. Many Christians are beginning to wonder if there is a better life for them outside of Pakistan. Some of these Christians have already decided to flee to other South Asian countries. Is this the beginning of the Pakistani Christian exodus?

Syria’s Christians – Who Will Help Them?
As the conflict in Syria continues on, people are slowly waking up to the horrors confronting Syrian Christians. Syria is the birthplace of the Christian church. Far from being a “foreign import,” the spread of Christianity around the world has its roots in Syria, and has been active ever since. The rising influence of violent Islamic extremists is now driving Christians out of their homes, by the hundreds of thousands.
