Mainstream media is talking about Beijing leading the UN Climate Change pact, since US President Trump had withdrawn from it. But, China is expected to construct massive coal power plants in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and Beijing remains unlikely to cancel them even at risk of losing a leadership role in the environmental movement.

After Paris: There Is No Existential Crisis
President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord has thrown the world into a blazing furnace full of weeping and gnashing of teeth—or the political world, at least, has been thrown into a fiery tizzy. Too many would rather rely on commanding and controlling others to fix humanity’s wicked problems than freely solve the problem themselves. It’s time to stop looking to central governments and global committees—whether the issue is climate change or poverty or education or whatever—to make our world a better place.

Bernie Sanders made more than $858,000 in royalties for two new books last year, according to the 2016 financial disclosure the senator quietly filed on Sunday. And he’s keeping the money. The disclosure provides new insight into how Sanders’ presidential campaign affected his own personal finances. It was due on May 15, but Sanders failed to file, instead seeking an extension. The book royalties were the most noteworthy new source of income Sanders reported in the election-year filings.

More Solar Jobs Is a Curse, Not a Blessing
Citing U.S. Department of Energy data, the New York Times recently reported that the solar industry employs far more Americans than wind or coal: 374,000 in solar versus 100,000 in wind and 160,000 in coal mining and coal-fired power generation. Only the natural gas sector employs more people: 398,000 workers in gas production, electricity generation, home heating and petrochemicals. This is supposed to be a good thing, according to the Times. It shows how important solar power has become in taking people out of unemployment lines and giving them productive jobs, the paper suggests. In reality, it’s not a good thing at all, and certainly not a positive trend. In fact, as Climate Depot and the Washington Examiner point out — citing an American Enterprise Institute study — the job numbers actually underscore how wasteful, inefficient and unproductive solar power actually is.

The Youths At Midway Versus the Mob at Evergreen State
Yesterday marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway, one of the greatest military victories in the annals of warfare. An American navy that had been battered since Pearl Harbor, with its only three serviceable aircraft carriers and no battleships, faced and defeated a Japanese navy force of four carriers and two battleships that controlled almost all of the western Pacific Ocean. The story has been well told about the luck of the Americans who were in the right place at the right time because of Admiral Chester Nimitz’s decision to gamble on partially decrypted Japanese communications, and who, despite having lost entire squadrons of torpedo bombers in the early phase of the battle, wound up with unplanned coordinated attacks on the Japanese fleet, which in some cases was in the midst of changing ordnance on its planes, eventually sinking all four carriers, a blow from which the Japanese navy never fully recovered.

Saturday’s attack showed that some people crave chaos and carnage when terror strikes but, in that regard, Brits tend to disappoint. What we are good at is cups of tea, sarcastic tweets and holding on to our pint of beer in troubling times.

London Bridge Terror Attack Shows Value of Responsible Gun Ownership
Seven people were killed and 48 were wounded in London on Saturday when three assailants ran over some pedestrians on the London Bridge then rushed to nearby Borough Market to stab several more. It was the third Islamist terror attack in the United Kingdom this year, and at least the eighth in Europe since the January 2015 assault on the offices of Charlie Hebdo in France. Back in 2013, the head of Interpol suggested that widespread gun ownership could serve as a deterrent to terrorism. Responsible gun ownership would be a far more effective counter-terrorism strategy for Europe than erecting a police state, and it would have the benefit of not undermining their liberal democratic system in the process.

Bernie Sanders Got a $795,000 Advance For a Book Ranting About Terrible Rich People
According to a new report from POLITICO, the former Democrat presidential candidate and self-described socialist (who often borders on communism) raked in a whopping $795,000 in advance payments for a book about his 2016 campaign and "the revolution." In other words, it's a book about the need to redistribute wealth from the terrible, evil, awful rich class he believes is destroying America (despite him being part of that rich class, of course).

"Create Your Re-Education Camp On Your Own Dime" - Lawmakers Propose Defunding Evergreen College
Republicans in the Washington State legislature have proposed a bill to revoke $24 million in annual state funding for Evergreen State College after social justice warriors effectively shut down the school's campus for two weeks after a faculty member objected to a planned demonstration that asked all white students and staff to leave campus for a day, as Campus Reform reported. Protests erupted late last month after biology professor Bret Weinstein sent an email to his colleagues arguing that the planned “day of absence” protest was itself a “form of oppression.” And now, in response to the farce, Washington state lawmakers have proposed legislation to revoke Evergreen's public funding, calling the students an "embarrassment." The bill is being spearheaded by Republican State Representative Matt Manweller, who introduced it alongside a letter to Washington State's Human Rights Commission requesting an investigation into the administration’s conduct.
