Short-Sellers Are Public Benefactors
Negative information is just as valuable for making the best use of scarce resources as positive information. When research leads investors to negative conclusions, short-selling allows them to profit. In fact, short-sellers are often the most effective market policemen.

The Poor Don't Need Handouts, They Need Microcredit
Rather than creating a government-run microfinance platform and granting it a monopoly, we should simply change how microfinance is taxed. Microloans create new and direct connections between economic classes.

Rent Control Makes It Harder to Vote with Your Feet
Virtually every rent control story focuses on local government policies. Less well known, however, is that a majority of states actually ban or restrict local governments’ power to impose rent control. And currently, in at least four states, those restrictions are under attack. Municipalities want power they are currently denied so they can impose rent control, supposedly to give local citizens “what they want.” But that raises the question of whether rent control policy should be vested at the state level or the local level.

Why Do We Still Have High Expectations for Politicians?
People love to make jokes about government foolishness, but many still regard them with legitimacy and respect. They still vote for their incumbent representatives, and when there is a problem they look to Congress to fix it. They rely on them because they are in charge, and being in charge, they must know what they’re doing. Right? The worship of authority is antithetical to liberty, and is prone to being bound by the tyranny of high expectations, applied to those who don’t deserve them.

Joanna Lumley attacks Sadiq Khan's scrapping of Thames garden bridge
The doomed plan for a garden bridge across the Thames has been defended by one of the project’s strongest proponents, the actor Joanna Lumley. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, effectively pulled the plug on the controversial plan on Friday, announcing that he would not provide the vital financial guarantees needed for construction to begin. The Garden Bridge Trust, which is responsible for realising Thomas Heatherwick’s design, vowed to fight on despite Khan’s decision, pinning its hopes on persuading another public body, such as the Department for Transport, to step in as guarantor.

CLIMATE EXPERTS: GLOBAL WARMING DOUBTS ARE 'REAL SCIENCE'
There are 'good reasons why scientists disagree about this wickedly complex puzzle'
A number of Ph.Ds have written a book chapter asserting that doubts about the theory of human-caused global warming should be considered “real science.” You know, the idea of basing hypotheses on documented evidence rather than a political agenda.
