Making a splash in bygone era
Rebecca Nappi      The Spokesman-Review

This photo was taken on July 8, 1924, in Liberty Lake.  Keo King LaVell
poses in a rowboat with her husband Francis N. LaVell.  By the 1920s,
women’s bathing costumes reflected the easing of restrictions on women’s
fashion in general. “Bathing costumes” no longer had to include long
sleeves, black hose, legs covered to the knees. Though Keo’s swimsuit
could pass for a modern and modest summer dress, back then it reflected
the modern era in swimsuits.
