VERIFY: IS COMCAST CHARGING HURRICANE VICTIMS FOR DAMAGED CABLE BOXES?
Comcast will not be charging late fees or disconnecting customers who are unable to pay their bill until conditions in affected areas improve.  A post circulating social media claims that Comcast is charging customers $70 for a “cable box that is now under water.” The claim, which was originally posted on Facebook on Sept. 6, has been shared over 30,000 times as of Sept. 15, with users expressing outrage that Comcast would charge residents who had been affected by hurricanes Harvey or Irma. New US Law Blurs the Line Between Hate Speech and Hate Crime
Eleven years ago, this essay argued against hate-crime laws. One argument read “People can eventually be accused of hate crimes when they use hateful speech. Hate crimes laws are a seed that can sprout in new directions.” This has now come to pass, I am sorry to say. This week, the Congress passed S. J. Res. 49, and President Trump signed it, making it part of the U.S. legal code.
