AN OPEN LETTER TO POPE FRANCIS
We invite readers’ attention to The Misuse of Amoris Laetitia To Support Errors against the Catholic Faith, a letter we have addressed “to the Supreme Pontiff Francis, to all bishops in communion with him, and to the rest of the Christian faithful.” The letter was dispatched for delivery to Pope Francis on November 21. In this letter we request Pope Francis to condemn eight positions against the Catholic faith that are being supported, or likely will be, by the misuse of his Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia. We ask all bishops to join in this request and to issue their own condemnations of the erroneous positions we identify, while reaffirming the Catholic teachings these positions contradict.

Why America Is an Exceptional Nation
Each one of the founders, including those of decidedly unconventional religious faith, believed profoundly that divine providence directed their revolution. If we accord the founders so much insight and wisdom that we explain the nation’s rise with reference to their abilities, then why should we reject their unanimous conclusion that a higher power steered their affairs?

‘LET THE LITURGY BE’
As a church we have prized our liturgy as an end in itself. We have not understood that there is a movement from the ontological Trinity, to the cross, to our participation in prayer, to proclamation and discipleship and service. Another answer is that we spend inordinate time trying to make our liturgy “work”: too much time on prayer book revision and supplementation, too much time on trying to make the weekly service relevant and meaningful. Perhaps we should spend time doing other things like seeking and teaching and catechizing and discipling, and let the liturgy be.

TO BLAZE HIS NAME ABROAD

The McRib and Economic Calculation
McDonald's historically reintroduces the McRib whenever pork prices fall below 65ish cents per pound. All entrepreneurs are constantly weighing costs against anticipated revenues. Once the present value of anticipated revenues exceed the costs of production, the project gets a green light, whether it's a McRib or a new iPhone or a lawn mowing service or anything.

Three Cheers for the Articles of Confederation
Under the Articles, we defeated the greatest empire in the world, we maintained stability (and unity) at home, and we passed the greatest law ever passed in a republic, the Old Northwest Ordinance, with its pro-Indian, anti-slavery, pro-Common Law, and anti-imperial provisions. Not bad for a brand-new republic. Indeed, not bad for any government, anywhere or anytime.

Consumer confidence surges on promise of Trump policies
Consumer confidence surged in early December thanks to expectations that President-elect Trump's policies will boost the economy, according to a preliminary release of the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index Friday. The index rose to just below the post-crisis high reached in 2015, which in turn was the highest since 2004, well before the financial crisis. The improvement "was largely due to consumers' initial reactions to Trump's surprise victory," said Richard Curtin, the chief economist for the survey.
