Obama Administration Launches Newest ‘Teacher Equity’ Plan
Teacher quality has a tremendous impact on student academic outcomes. But the best way to ensure students have access to quality teachers isn’t through the type of central planning teacher equity plans require; it’s through school choice. Empower parents with the ability to choose schools – and teachers – and students are far more likely to find their way to teachers that meet their unique learning needs.

Sheriff: Some of Pateros still standing — barely — after devastating wildfire
Okanogon County Sheriff Frank T. Rogers said Friday morning the damage to Pateros is extensive, but at least some of the town next to the Columbia River and Highway 97 is still standing. “The church and post office are OK,” he said, noting that he was calling from downtown. He said somehow, much of the downtown area was saved from the racing fires Thursday night. Still, at least 30 homes burned down in Pateros, he said, with 40 more burned in the nearby Alta Lake area — a huge number for such a small town.
