In Syria, Christians are facing threats from both sides as they are falling victim not only to the violence that has claimed more than 110,000 lives during the past three years but also from kidnapping and attacks specifically because of their religious identity.

Details are still emerging concerning the bomb blasts in a Christian area of Baghdad on Christmas Day. 37 people were killed in blasts outside the St. John Catholic Church and near a market in Athorien. The U.S. Embassy has called the targeting of Christians “deliberate and senseless” and comes at the end of what has been the deadliest year in Iraq since at least 2008.

Christians living in Pakistan have endured another difficult year of persecution. Persecution and religious intolerance continue to insight violence against the religious minority. 2013 saw an entire Christian community, Joseph's Colony, burnt to the ground following a blasphemy accusation against a Christian, over 130 Christians killed in a double suicide bombing of All Saints Church in Peshawar and the continued abuse of the country's blasphemy laws to persecuted Christians. A Bureau of Reclamation employee from Boise died Wednesday night after he fell on Monday at a construction site at Pinto Dam. The dam is located about 18 miles east of Ephrata.
