Murder suspect reportedly attacked inmate, struggled with officer
Prosecutors recently charged Vasquez in Grant County Superior Court with custodial assault, after a correctional officer reportedly tried to stop Vasquez from attacking another inmate. Vasquez, a 23-year-old Moses Lake man, is presently facing one count of murder in the first degree for allegedly shooting Juan J. Garcia outside of the Airport Grocery Mart on Patton Boulevard in September. He is presently being held in the Grant County Jail.

Indonesian President Accused of Passing the Buck on Religious Intolerance
Recent comments by President Yudhoyono of Indonesia saying it is the responsibility of faith leaders to promote religious tolerance has drawn criticism from Christian pastors and others who say the president has largely avoided dealing with rising intolerance in the country. In 2012, ICC recorded at least 50 churches that were shut down by local governments under pressure from radical Islamic groups. The federal government has avoided becoming involved in the church closures, despite rulings by the Indonesian Supreme Court in at least two cases ordered the churches to be reopened.

3 Christians Killed in Attack on Church in Central Nigeria
During a New Year's Eve worship service, an evangelical church located in central Nigeria was attacked by a group of Fulani herdsmen. When the dust settled after the attack, as many as three Christians had been killed and as many as 16 others were injured. The number of attacks on Christians perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen continues to soar in Nigeria. Many Christian leaders suspect these groups are taking orders from the Boko Haram Islamic terrorist group who is seeking to purify northern Nigeria's Muslim society. After Islamic rebels connected to a group called Seleka took power in the Central African Republic, increased inter religious violence has dominated the country. Fighting between the Christian and Muslim communities of the Central African Republic has claimed the lives of thousands and has displaced hundreds of thousands. Little has been done by the international community to stem the violence. Please pray for peace to be reclaimed in the Central African Republic.

Christians and Muslims March Together for a Better Pakistan
Members of both the Christian and the Muslim communities of Pakistan marched together this week in cities across the South Asian country. The protestors main message was that Pakistan is in need of serious change. Among the issues highlighted, the protection of religious minorities was central. Many protestors called back to the September attack on All Saints Church in Peshawar that claimed the lives of over 130 Christians. Please pray that Pakistan is able to change in 2014.
