image 193: Grand Coulee Dam---Where Cities Bloom Overnight

Hammers and saws are busy at the dam site. The top picture is a striking panorama of Mason City, the contractor's town, taken from a point below the reservoir on the east side. Note the big mess hall just to the left of center, and the executive building ner the left. The new "dorms" are plainly visible. In the far background can be seen the new buildings rising at the engineers' town across ther river, and the joint entry highway and railroad being built by Crick & Kuney.

In the center picture, left, is the new trestle bridg across the Columbia just completed by MWAK company, and at the right is a close-up on work in the engineers' town on the west side. Note the new building of the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph company in the foreground.

Below: B street, Grand Coulee, as it appears today.
